Woot.com has the OEM Tools 42 piece impact socket set for $49.99. Price on Amazon at this time is $121.40. The price history seems to fluctuate a bit with the low being $57.48 in 2019. I can't speak for the quality but this seems like at the very least a decent price for a budget set.

3/8" drive. 12 metric sizes both shallow and deep. 8 standard sizes in both shallow and deep. A couple of adapters.

This "conspiracy" thinking is..wow...

Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation was established in Milwaukee, WI in 1924.
The fact that it is not owned (exclusively) by US interests almost 100 years later doesn't change that fact.
Seriously no one has heard of these? Autozone sells these with a no question return policy.
A casual user can buy any impact and won't have a problem. May want to look at Brands like Harbor Freight, husky, tekton

Is this ok or overkill for a casual DIYer that occasionally does simple car repairs at home?

Most heavy impacts are 1/2" so these wouldn't be usable without an adapter unless you have a 3/8" gun.

OEM TOOLS. lol what a name

The name was chosen to purposefully confuse the consumer thinking they're getting this top quality brand. With that kind of marketing, I have to question the quality of the tools immediately and will not support that shenanigans.
