used it for 3 days and had to return it. the wifi 5 bands have short range. (yes I had the latest firmware installed)
my Asus AC68U router has the same range which is 5+ years old.
wasnt impressed by this router at all.

also after doing research, Netgear filters ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) connection for IPV6
my connection grade on https://ipv6-test.com/ could never get above 17 (out 20) because of this filtering.
With my Asus router and with Merlin installed my grade is 19 (out of 20)

Wow, people here always seem to hate these Netgear routers that generally get good reviews elsewhere. My theory is that many of the criticisms come from power users who dislike things that most of us, myself included, don't even understand. Maybe that's an oversimplification?

Basically I just want it to be reasonably priced, easy to setup and use, fast, reliable and long-lasting. Why is that so hard to find sometimes? Isn't that what most of us want?!

I'm still leaning toward this one because of the price and the Costco warranty (I usually try to bend over backwards to get my tech at Costco) but I truly appreciate all of the comments and feedback I can get.

I know it's a different product, but I got a R7800 to replace an Asus RT-AC68U and it wasn't the upgrade I was expecting. It can handle more devices, but man does Netgear software suck. You HAVE to run Voxel firmware, because stock requires semi-frequent restarts. I have my all my dumb devices on 2.4GHz and only phones/laptops on 5GHz, and I still have 5GHz clients drop occasionally. I never had these problems on my Asus, which I only upgraded because I needed to support more devices (>30).

Ethernet backhaul is nonexistent, so there's pretty much no upgradeability. I got a RT-AC86 for another family and it has been flawless for them. I regret not just getting two AC86's.

Also no one should be buying a WiFi 6 router. WiFi 6E is where all the real gains are, and if your devices don't support WiFi 6 then what's the point?

Can I put in a sim card and will it work?
No this requires a cable or fiber internet connection.

The software on these and the links's are absurdly awful.

If you want to turn the network off, it just stops serving DNS -- IIRC this one actually requires a subscription for "parental controls" - lame.

I just go into the basement and pull my kid's ethernet port when it's time . . .

How different is this model at Amazon for $165:
https://www.amazon.com/Netgear-Ni...B086ZNJ1J2

Quote from bpowers001 :
MSRP $349.99, Regular price at Costco $299.99, $100.00 sale good through 4/4 = $199.99 with free shipping

Model RAX78 - Costco specific model number. Essentially equivalent to RAX70 (not RAX80) except for 6200 total gbps instead of 6600. All other features appear to be the same.

RAX70 prices = $341.99 (Amazon, Best Buy), $349.99 (Netgear)

I'm thinking about returning my RAX75 (Costco version of the RAX80) since it's starting to have issues, and replacing it with this. Is it worth it for the 3rd 5ghz band in a VERY device dense area?

I wouldn't do that. The Costco one has 50% more speed, 8 streams instead of 6, tri band instead of dual, quad core processor instead of triple. Just seems like a lot more router in general for $35 more.

From what I've read, I think a three band router would definitely help but I am not a power user.

I have my Netgear R6700 that has been solid all these years and I have been using it as an access point for my Asus AC-1900, and I decided to upgrade my router with this one. Like others have mentioned here, I had to return mine because in the few days that I've had it, it was very frustrating to have to reboot this router frequently. Webpages don't seem to load, and although I get better speeds when I perform a speed test, more often than not the speed test would not load and just fail. I also tried the TP-link Deco X60 which is also on sale at costco, but the inability to choose channels (which I needed to do for my 2.4 ghz devices) made me return that router also.

On Deco X60, u can use guest network for 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz for ur normal one. I had to do this and it's better for IoT to go on Guest network anyway. For some reason, I returned mine as well due to performance issue with 60+ devices (mostly 2.4 ghz)
