They're a popular Japanese doll brand that has been around for the past 36 years. They started in 1985, a lot of people grew up with them. They also have Anime series, video games, manga, theme parks, stores, stage shows, a magazine, and a whole bunch of other products featuring the characters. They're basically an institution in Japan, and extremely popular in Europe. They're not quite as big in America, we're maybe the third or fourth country in which the dolls are most popular. Probably tying with Australia. They're just cute, and well made. They can be pretty expensive though. A lot of these families are normally $25, so getting one for less than $10 is a great deal.
Nice .... but I did get this from Amazon for the same cost with free Prime shipping 👍
It does look like the Walmart dolls, and the Amazon dolls, have completely different outfits. So, that's also something to think about when buying these.

I'll add that the furniture and the accessories are realistic, tiny, and intricately detailed, much more so than Barbie or any other dolls. Lawyers in the US have pretty much ruined toys here. In Japan, they trust their kids not to stuff everything in their mouths.
You may remember commercials from a while ago selling "Sylvanian Families". These are the exact same thing.
