I never know why this question always gets asked. Yes, once your Ultimate sub expires, you'll be converted to a "normal"/free Xbox membership, from there you can subscribe to Ultimate again, or subscribe to a Gold membership; same as it's always been.

*IF* you add a prepaid subscription to your *active* Ultimate membership (meaning right now), Microsoft converts the prepaid time to your current—more expensive—Ultimate subscription for less time.
Converts to 4 months of GPU automatically. If you are not currently subscribed (either never sub'd to Ultimate, or it lapsed), it can be converted to GPU again after to get the full 12 months, though if you used the $1 offer already you will likely have to pay the full $14.99 for a month to convert it.

Bought 2 years. Email delivery in about 5 minutes. Perfect timing because my ultimate ran out a week ago.
Thanks.

It'll convert for 1/3 the time, meaning it'll add 4 months. The best play is to wait until your Ultimate expires, then activate 3 of these and do a conversion.

So I'm really confused. My ultimate runs out next year. Can I go back to just paying for Gold?

Thx OP. Bought 3

Edit: Does anyone knows if these codes expire? I might buy more and save them for friends to give away on Christmas.

Is this a good deal? I have been doing rewards and haven't paid for gold for a while but after yhey got rid of 12 month one it's not as easy as it used to be.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but it's been a long time since I subscribed to any Xbox gaming service. Anyway, I just got a XBox Series X and I have a 12 month XBL Gold code. If I redeem it, and then pay for say a month of Game Pass Ultimate immediately afterwards, does that mean I'll have 13 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate?

That's exactly what it means. And it works for up to three years at a time.

Thanks! Slightly modified scenario. I just remembered I also have a 14 day Game Pass Ultimate code that came with my 2nd Xbox controller. If I use that code immediately after redeeming the 12 month XBL Gold code, will that also work to convert the 12 months of XBL Gold to GPU?
