I'm never really one to buy into all the "high tech" features, and that's especially true for a grill. I like the multiple shelves far more than I do the window on the top, the light inside, or the window for the pellets to see how full it is. There's an alarm that goes off when you're low on pellets anyway, and you could always just go the old-fashioned route and, you know, open the lid real quick.
There are decked-out models (prime) and lower-end models (choice). I have the Daniel Boone Prime, but unless you need all the extra features and the difference in temperature ability (500 vs 550), the choice would be just fine. The bottom line -- the overall quality is just significantly better, in my opinion.
I wouldn't pay $800 for a grill personally, but if I had the money to spare I would not hesitate to buy this grill. It was a gift from my family so that wasn't an issue. When my mother was shopping at one of the biggest BBQ stores in Los Angeles she went in asking about the Traeger and the guy helping her told her that every employee in the store owns a Green Mountain Grill and not a Traeger. And this guy actually has a pretty successful cooking show on youtube or Instagram or whatever the hell people use.
That was a long-winded way of saying the GMG is better quality, and I feel significant. Again, this is based on my experience with a 2017ish Traeger vs a GMG I bought 6 months ago. Here's a link comparing the models below... price point is anywhere from $299 to $1,000. Hope that was helpful, let me know if you have more questions.
