Good news for this Laptop as this model is having the higher end 300 nits 72% NTSC or 99% sGB panel which is very difficult to find at this price range. Also, both the memory slots are user upgradable and you can go up to 64GB, max supported by the Processor.

Link to Official Product Spec Document: https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/ins..._en-us.pdf

Go to Page 17 and you will the that it has two display options, 220 nits with 45% NTSC whereas 300 nits with 72% NTSC.

It is not an outstanding deal but pretty decent considering the Spec, build quality, display quality it is offering at this price.

I picked up the Costco 5700U deal for $750. Do you think that has a better graphics setup? Do you know if this is set to a higher TDP or does Dell set this to 15 watts?

Thank you!

@Suryasis: I always follow deals posted by you and your knowledge about computers.

I have understanding that AMD processor are faster than inter.

How is processor on this machine compared to ryzen?

I am software engineer and do lot of programming so need faster laptop.

I am interested in this deal.

It depends on the generation of CPU(s). 11th Gen i5/i7 will usually be faster in single thread performance and Ryzen will usually dominate in multi thread.

Graphics performance appears to be all over the board. These factors come into play: TDP, RAM speed, single vs multichannel ram, and overall laptop thermal design. Overall it looks like they average out to me but sometimes skews drastically one way or the other. I dont think you can go wrong with either G7 or RX Vega 6-8 graphics

Thanks a lot Suryasis..I think I will pass on this. I do heavy programming so looking for multi threaded good performance

Saw a lot of questions about Ryzen vs Intel, including Processor and IGP performance. So, wanted to answer the questions. Please read it carefully as there is no Black and White answer to the question which is better.

It is true that Intel has slightly higher IPC against the 4000 series and still modified Zen 2 based (Zen2+) Lucienne 5000 series Processors like R5 5500U and R7 5700U but the issue is Tiger Lake Processors are not as efficient as Ryzen Processors and consumes a lot more power to maintain even their base frequency.
For example: You see that 1165G7 has a base frequency highlighted as 2.8 GHz...so, as per Intel's TDP definition, that clock speed should be maintained across all the cores when it is running at 15W TDP, right? No. As per Intel's new policy, it needs 28W to to guarantee a 2.8 GHz base clock across all 4 cores. If it is set to lower than that, even the base frequency can go down during load, as low as 1 GHz. I think you guys know the reason why Intel has so much trouble to release 6 Core or 8 Core 10nm TigerLake Processors...because the power consumptions goes really high for reaching high clockspeeds for more than 4 cores, even for a Desktop.
Now due to thermal limitations, most of the budget Ultrabooks like this one, does not provide a cooling solution capable enough to sustained. Most of these laptops just provide a short burst for few seconds (Short term PL2) for 28W or even 40W (in mostly the extreme performance mode equivalent) and then lowers it to 17W or 15W, resulting a huge drop, over 15% in some cases while running long running programs. This affects both the CPU and GPU performance. Only some Laptops like MSI Prestige, Lenovo E series ThinkPads and some other very costly devices have some robust cooling solution in an Ultrabook which can maintain 28W for very long time. Sadly, this Laptop has more conservative settings for the TDP and it runs mostly in 17W, after running at 25W for few seconds. If you see the Notebookcheck reviews of different Tigerlake Laptops, you will see huge discrepancies in performance for the same Processor.
Vs Ryzen 7 4000 series (Renoir)
While Ryzen 4000 series has lower IPC, they are far superior in terms of power efficiency and Thermal Design. Also, even some of the budget Ryzen laptops from some brands like Lenovo, let the Processors go up to 30W in their highest performance mode, due to the fact that it generates less heat and even a standard cooling can handle it. Example is IdeaPad 5 14 and 15 incher which are available at $600 now with the highest specification (4700U, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD), can easily reach 32W during load. Now because of that, even with slightly lower IPC, the actual single Core performance between a Ryzen 4000U series and Tiger Lake CPUs, in budget Laptops, are actually not that big. Hardware Unboxed did a review and found out that i7-1165G7 is just 10% faster than 4700U when TDP is set to 15W. The reason is at that 15W, Tiger Lake Processors can't maintain even their constant base frequency, 2.8 GHz in case of 1165G7 whereas Ryzen 7 4700U can maintain even 2.4 to 3 GHz in all of its 8 Cores at 15W, hence reducing that IPC gain by running at higher clock speed.
So, if your work needs lot of CPU power, even some of them are lightly threaded, I will go with Ryzen 7 4700U because while it is just around 7% to 10% slower in lightly threaded apps, it can go over 60% in multi-threaded apps and that is a great advantage as most applications can low leverage multiple cores, even some of the basic apps. However, you need to decide based on your other requirements like getting a better quality Display, Thunderbolt support etc.
Vs Ryzen 5000 Lucienne (Zen 2 +)
R7 5700U and R5 5500U belongs to this class and they are tweaked Zen 2 architecture with 5% to 7% IPC improvement, all are having SMT (2 logical cores per one physical core) and one extra GPU core running at 200 MHz higher clock speed compared to their 4000U series counterpart. So, now 5500U has 6C/12T and VEGA 7 Graphics and 5700U has 8C/16T and VEGA 8 running at 2100 MHz. The very limited set of reviews I have seen, mainly from Asus ZenBook 13 OLED UM325 which is a 13.3" 2-in-1 with 1080P and 4K OLED panels and comes with both Tiger Lake and Ryzen Lucienne variants and conservative power ceiling, 40W PL2 for very short burst and 17W long term PL1, even the budget 5500U blows i7-1165G7 out of water in multi-threaded workloads and performs similar in single threaded workloads. Basically Tiger Lake has no advantage in any kind of workloads against new Zen 2 + architecture when operating at same power envelop.
Check the below review for better understanding for Ryzen 5 5500U's performance. It actually beats i7-1165G7 in same Zenbook 13 while consuming 15W vs 1165G7 consuming 20W. If you get Ryzen 7 5700U which is now available with new HP Envy 15 x360 and Lenovo Flex 5 15 and 14 (Deals are posted here, from Newegg, CostCo and HP Website), and you require high performance over display quality or other features, simply grab one.
https://www.ultrabookreview.com/45028-asus-zenbook-13-um325-review/ [ultrabookreview.com]

Graphics Performance: What really surprised me most for this Zen 2+ 5000U series Processors, is the Graphics performance. Even using that same VEGA graphics, AMD has increased the performance by a great margin by just adding one GPU compute Cores (64 SP) and increasing the Clock Speed. Now The VEGA 7 at 1800 MHz in Ryzen 5 5500U, outperforms Intel's so called Iris XE Graphics in i5-1135G7 (80 EU) in almost every benchmarks and actually perform lot better in games, due to the matured AMD Graphics drivers compared to Iris XE Drivers from Intel. It performs a single digit % slower than the 96 EU based Iris XE Graphics in 1165G7 which is Intel's best Integrated Graphics. Check the above review for the GPU performance as well. VEGA 8 in 5700U will perform better, if not equal, against Iris XE in Core i7 with 96 EU. Also the Adobe Premiere Pro 15 has finally optimized the support for Vega Integrated GPU and combined with a more pewful CPU, now AMD APUs are performing similar, if not better, in Video editing tasks using Premiere Pro.

Please read my previous post where I have explained in details about the current gen Intel and AMD Processors. Anyway, for your work, if you don't care about the sub-par display, check the Costco deal posted here for new Lenovo Flex 5 with Ryzen 7 5700U, 16GB DDR4 and 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD at $750. However, the memory is soldered.

It has slightly better Graphics too. The Processor performance is really negligible. if you don't need the extra Graphics power, the other deal I have posted is a better option. You can add another 8GB Ram on that one to make it 16GB by spending around 40 bucks.
