You couldn't be more wrong. There is absolutely are nothing wrong with sodium.
These energy drinks usually add extra sodium because it's extremely important to replenish sodium that's left the body when exercising. It also allows for water retention. Runners often literally drink salt water before they head out for a runs.
In fact, if athletes were to follow your advice, they'd be at a much higher risk of getting heat stroke/exhaustion than any blood/heart related problems.
I understand if you are sedentary or have hypertension, but your average active person should be much more concerned with staying hydrated (which sodium significantly helps) than ingesting too much sodium, especially in hot weather.
Last time I did a subscribe and save for these they were out of the flavor I ordered when it was time for my monthly delivery. Instead of canceling, they sent a different flavor I didn't want. I tried to return them and they told me to keep them for free.
I went in to Dollar Tree a few days ago for my kids class project and saw they had a bunch of different Monster flavors for $1 each. I picked up a few of the Yerba Mate flavors which are pretty good and sugar free.

Jeebus H the sodium levels in these types of "zero drinks" is astonishing. Basically switching diabetes for high blood pressure and heart attacks.
