That is definitely not the newer model. Amazon gets that wrong quite a bit. That "newer model" was actually released about the same time and has 1 or 2 less features, and a smaller screen. Don't always believe what things online tell you. You must always do your own research.
It it best to buy because it has HDMI 2.1 via future updates...

Bought a cheapo thermometer in 2017 from a slickdeal for $4.
Then that Christmas got a thermopen mk4 from folks $179 factory calibrated.
Did boiling water test, ice water tests, and other temp reading tests and timed them all.
The el cheapo $4 took maybe 1 second longer to register the exact same temperature. The sensor was slighty further back on tip whereas the mk4 sensor was at the tip. Build quality well mk4 was solid, and $4 one felt like a $15 thermometer or so.
Moral of the story? $4 vs $179, for a product that does the exact same thing.
Your steak will be fine brother.

The only two thermometers that do this well are the Lavatools Javelin PRO and the Thermoworks Thermapen. One is $55 and the other is $100. The Javelin Pro is a far better deal and is about 90% as good as the Thermapen. But if you feel like splurging on a product with a few more features and slightly faster lock and made in a developed country (UK), then get the Thermapen.
