Personally, I use this instead of a garage door opener left in the 2nd car in the driveway. Much more secure

They do it because it's part of the integration with Ring eco-system, which in turn is owned by Amazon. Ring + this garage opener allows you to participate in a program where Amazon drivers 'securely' drop your packages inside your garage instead of your doorstep.

I don't quite understand why Amazon keeps promoting this, while it doesn't work with Alexa i.e. you cannot ask Alexa to open your "Smart Garage Door". Can't they find a brand that can connect with the "Smart Home" gadgets they are selling?

There's a video clip on YouTube show you how to open a garage door with MyQ with voice commands. I followed the steps show in the video and I was able to close the garage door. Unfortunately I couldn't use the voice commands to close it.

The reason they promote this is to get people to use Amazon Key to cut down on package theft. I for one tested out key a few times and wasn't impressed. Garage would get stuck and then they would text me that they left it open...

You can with another app called SimpleCommands. I set mine up a couple months ago and it works. Just make sure you don't have any Alexa devices that can be heard from outside your house for security reasons (I muted the one in my garage).
