Why would you ever want to connect garage door to Alexa

Personally, I use this instead of a garage door opener left in the 2nd car in the driveway. Much more secure

They do it because it's part of the integration with Ring eco-system, which in turn is owned by Amazon. Ring + this garage opener allows you to participate in a program where Amazon drivers 'securely' drop your packages inside your garage instead of your doorstep.

At my previous house I had to buy a chamberlin garage door opener and after having a wifi / app garage door opener, it was hard to go back. At current house has two normal garage door openers with no keypad and previous owners gave only one remote. So bought this last time around and works great (along with second sensor at more cost than the unit but honestly too lazy to install another unit and makes for a cleaner install). I've only had it stop once since using it.

To the person asking about LEDs, there are specific LED garage bulbs you can buy (don't know if they work) but I do know lots of garage door openers state to not use LED bulbs as they interfere with the signal (or vastly cut it down).

There's a video clip on YouTube show you how to open a garage door with MyQ with voice commands. I followed the steps show in the video and I was able to close the garage door. Unfortunately I couldn't use the voice commands to close it.
You can use a SmartThings hub to set up open and close commands.

Good question. I have the previous version and required troubleshooting for hours until I realized it was the LED bulbs causing interference when trying to close it.
Correct. I was having issues with florescents too. Safe thing to do is have the lights off during initial setup.

I don't quite understand why Amazon keeps promoting this, while it doesn't work with Alexa i.e. you cannot ask Alexa to open your "Smart Garage Door". Can't they find a brand that can connect with the "Smart Home" gadgets they are selling?
Amazon allows garage delivery with MyQ that's why.

Thats a bad idea for a voice opener. A "smart robber" would just go to an open window and yell out "Alexa, open garage"
If a robber was at an open window he'd just cut the screen and have access to the house AND the garage.

Locks only keep honest people out. A criminal that wants to get in will get in. If you wanted to be clever you could simply set the command to something esoteric, like, "Computer, open says me".

<- security analyst with an Alexa enabled garage, because I know how silly it is to think a lock is going to stop a "smart robber", or even a dumb one with a bump key.

I have it set up w smartthing and it works with android auto so I can use it to open the garage door instead of using the actual remote or homelink from Honda (which wasn't part of the car package). Very easy to install. I installed one for my friend. He has a genie and it worked fine. This was the older black model.

I use a Pi with HOOBS on it, works great with Siri and my apple watch.

You DO have to be connected to your local network, which is good.

I got the deal($17) from last year, and just really love it. MyQ is very easy to use and works flawlessly and very reliable so far, tough the initial setup might take some time.

I connected it with Google Assistant and it works fine as well except opening the garage door by voice is purposely disabled(for security reason per Chamberlain)

I highly recommend this unit.

Will this work with the Ring app without a subscription? I love my Meross, but I would love to consolidate it all to the Ring app.

If this myQ item works for my garage door opener, and I also just bought the Refoss garage door opener deal posted recently that I haven't yet installed. Which would you keep?
Is Refoss a knockoff of Meross?? These names are getting out of hand lol

Anyways, the Chamberlain one seems to be highly rated and recommended by a bunch of blogs/forums (though they're probably paid reviews and affiliates, so who really knows?) To me, they're all the same. FWIW myQ has an okay app and it comes with a sensor that allows it to detect whether the door is open or closed, so if you need a WiFi garage door controller, it's a solid option over the ones without a sensor.

It's funny that chamberlain has a "partnership" with Amazon for their new garage delivery. Just fyi, chamberlain basically has a monopoly on garage door openers as they are the manufacturers of that component.

Anyone know if there is a difference from the older black version hubs and this model?
The new white model is not annoyingly loud as the previous model. There were many videos of how to Modify your hub (remove speaker completely) This model is nice and has made my entry to garage easier.

Ah, good catch. I had this over a year ago and sent it back because I couldn't get it to work consistently. Never thought about the LED bulbs I put in the opener.

By default, myQ can only close the garage door and check status with google assistant, which is not horribly insecure. However, in 2021, you still have to say: okay google, ask myQ to… is such a shame. I believe they are using the older api.
I can see they are putting effort to make their app center of the smart home hub, instead of making better integration with mature smart home platforms. I will probably do more research on a HomeKit adapter instead of this if I need to upgrade my garage door opener.

Does this work with LED bulbs in the garage area? I heard several reports that the earlier version had some issues.
A lot of openers have issues with LED bulbs. It's the only reason I still keep any incandescents in the house. IMO, using incandescents is easier than worrying about whether this will be the time the interference makes your remote not work.
