PSA: For those in states where you're considering enrolling in the utility program to save money on the thermostat, make sure you carefully read the terms and conditions on those programs. For my state and local utility (and I assume other states and utility companies) the pricing model changes, in some cases drastically, by introducing different levels of peak pricing and sometimes even direct control over your thermostat. Whether it can save you money in the long-term is possible, but just be sure you fully understand what the program entails before jumping in with both feet.

California pg&e is NOT no strings attached. For one, you need to install and activate it to get the rebate, so if you already have a smart thermostat you can't get this to resell

Not surprised that Centerpoint Energy in TX is not participating. TX doesn't believe in energy conservation 🙄

In the Texas - DFW area (and other areas)
Oncor has some coupons for smart thermostats: https://smartsavingstx.com/
Atmos has a $75 rebate for smart thermostats: https://www.atmosenergy.com/ways-...te-program

I was able to stack these two discounts to get an Ecobee for $55 ish.

EDIT: I did not put my thermostat on the internet. Blocked it via my router and use it locally via homekit. No issues getting the discount/rebate.

Don't take the state listing as gospel. Avista Utilities in Spokane, Washington has many rebates for various products. Smart Thermostats self installed up to $125, contractor installed up to $150. And you don't have to buy the unit from Avista.

The only caveat is most smart thermostats require a 5 wire cable from the thermostat to the equipment.

If your local utility is not listed here, most have a website you can check out.

I currently have Honeywell Thermostat 6000 in my home. Don't see any thick black wires, nor stranded wires with nuts on the wallplate. Is my system compatible with a Nest thermostat? Just want to make sure.

      Quote from bassalone :
Virginia - Dominion Energy offers a bunch of different thermostats and apparently also offers an additional $50 mail in rebate after your thermostat is hooked up.

Could you get it to work? The Nest showed as $49, but when I went to checkout, it jumped to $129.

      Duke Energy. Orlando, FL.

Already have a Nest 3rd generation, but wanted to see if this would work.

      Not eligible for discounts.

I think it's because I live in a Townhome. They denied me discount when I bought a new air conditioner and didn't get the expected rebate. Kind of annoying. So might not work for you if you don't live a single dwelling home.
