I'm staying at an Airbnb right now (1st staycation after a year of no travel) that has this exact set. Have used various Nespresso units at Airbnb's esp in Europe, and in corporate meeting rooms. Ironically despite being very convenient, different models can sometimes be a little confusing on first use, even for Europeans - how to fill the water, load and lock the capsules, start the brew. This one is pretty foolproof, there is literally only one button on the whole unit.

The unit seems of good quality, all the chromed bits are a heavy metal, easy to use and easy to clean and maintain. Ingenious method of spinning the capsule to do the extraction. The frother also is similarly clever and easy to use and clean, also just one single button.

The coffee and espresso are good. The only thing a little off is the coffee capsules generate quite a lot of stiff "foam" (Iike a fourth of the cup) that is not crema, sticks to the top in your cup/mug and doesn't tilt with the coffee as you drink. Pouring actual frothed milk on it breaks it up and disperses it. The espresso capsules have the expected thin layer of crema on top.

While I would not pay the price per cup at home for Nespresso (I have a superauto espresso machine with whole beans), I could see this being a great choice for folks who drink 1-2 cups per day with minimal effort or maintenance and like to vary their choice of grind.

Silly question, but can this be used as a "hot shot" for making oatmeal or teas, like a Keurig can?

No. The Vertuo line will not work without a pod inserted or put in descaling mode. The Original line will but the water probably won't be hot enough for tea or oatmeal which needs to be near boiling.

Fundamentally this is a fantastic deal. But I bought a Next last BF and was not impressed. It keeps dripping water after the brew and ends up as a pool of water in the pod holder that you have soak up with a paper towel. I thought my first one was defective but the replacement did it too. Ended up with a Vertuoplus. No problem so far with that machine.

Also for Nespresso newbies - be aware Nespresso still has a patent on the Vertuo line so there are no 3rd party pods at lower cost like with the Original line. Starbucks does have Vertuo pods but they are licensed by Nespresso and similarly priced as Nespresso's own pods.

Thanks. My kids use the Keurig everyday to make their own herbal tea or instant oatmeal, so not boiling works great. I'll keep my eyes open for an original.

I purchased this but now water leakage from reviews is my concern. Hopefully the unit I get does not have that.

I hope this means Costco will start selling the pods. I love the coffee from this but it's expensive to use compared to alternatives.

If anything Costco's return policy should honor the return.

The ones in my area do not, so perhaps it varies by store. There is one that sells the Peet's bulk variety, but I only like the Crema Scuro, so that's a bust.

This or the Vertuo Deluxe from Bloomingdale's for $127? Anyone know the difference b/w Deluxe vs. Next?
