This looks like a bad idea to me. Single-purpose, throwaway devices that have questionable longevity are not the kind of product I expect in 2021.

I think it is actually awesome for those who use Spotify Premium daily and are in the category of people who don't have smart radios/new cars. The regular phone app isn't that good for commuting and this looks much easier to navigate/fuss-free.

I'd use this in a heartbeat. I wouldn't pay full price but if I get it for free I'd gladly pay the $7 to ship it to me.

So it connects via aux or BT to your car stereo, something your phone can already do, but it still has to connect through your phone in order to get songs.

All you really get is a quick and easy interface to access said songs all while most vehicle manufacturers are moving towards better infotainment setups with apple carplay and android auto where Spotify is already supported.

So this fills the niche of the older infotainment cars or those who want to pick and see their songs on the fly...that's a very small niche IMO.

I love this idea. If the device has a memory of the last item I played on the device then it's worth $80. I listen differently on my phone/at home then I do in the car. I listen to more podcasts in the car, if this can pick up where I left off from on the device then I don't have to fiddle with it before driving.

Yes it's stupid / useless product for people who own something with CarPlay but it is useful for non CarPlay.

I wouldn't hold my breath, considering every device on which I've ever played Spotify only remembers the last thing I played on Spotify, and not the device itself. But hey, they say pigs have flown before! 🤷 ♀️

I'm guessing this is a way for them to test the waters to see if there would be demand for such a thing. It's the typical use for waiting lists in validation testing.

I always try very hard to name my apps with smart sounding names. I will follow Spotify naming convention and call my apps Car Thing, Tablet Thing, Computer Thing 1 and Thing 2.

Great idea for classic cars that want to add Spotify.
Might be nice in my side by side too.

You missed the point. CarPlay does lots of things. This only lets you do ONE thing. A better device would be something like this, but that gives all the features of CarPlay.
Well am saying the same thing while keeping in mind that Spotify isn't in that business, so obviously it's focused towards their business
