That appears to be a YMMV clearance price back in 2018. The Blue Hawk racks are no longer sold at Lowes. These were most likely clearanced because of the 25% steel tariff imposed by Trump back in March 2018.

Many of the people in the thread couldn't get that price depending on their zip code. I've never had any luck with brickseek and YMMV deals on slickdeals. Every time I go to get a deal, the store's inventory is wrong and they didn't have any in stock.

I fully ignore YMMV threads. I never have luck with them in my area. I think some unemployed people spend all their time on slickdeals and snipe deals, then resell them on facebook marketplace or something.

I just checked the lowes website now. The Monsterrax and Gladiator 4x8 rack are $152($179 reg) and $159.99 each. That's $300- $320 for 2 racks, and no hangers or accessories included. So I don't know what you're talking about.

$240 for two 4x8 racks is a great deal.

I got this deal last time it was offered and it's great. Installed it by myself, I used an A frame ladder to hold one side of the cross beam while I bolted in the other side.

When pricing them out, this deal, given the quality and thickness of steel is actually very good. Most kits that get you close to this price range, require you to buy plywood for the base, while this kit comes with the steel grate base and extra hanging hooks that are very useful.

I bought a bunch of those black totes with the yellow lids and this totally free'd up all the floor space in my garage. I'm so happy I did this.

The builder told me not to install these things in the garage because the ceiling can't support it. Are they telling me that to protect themselves because they didn't follow building codes to save on building materials? It's a single-story built 10 years ago.
In general, this is true. Your garage ceiling construction and weight calculations did not take into consideration any additional (significant) weights attached to the ceiling beams, besides of the roof, its supporting structure, garage doors with all necessary hardware and covering (i.e. ceiling drywalls). This is your own risk, and I see why the builder doesn't want to be a part of it.

With all said above, I have accepted the risk, bought this set about 2 years ago and attached two 4x8 shelves to my garage ceiling, spreading the load evenly, as much as I can. Still going strong. Each shelf uses 4 beams. If you have a chance to put those shelves in the corners (I didn't) and mount back side to the wall - this would be even better, as would partially move the load from the ceiling beams to wall studs.

I installed these on the last sale. It's definitely a much easier task with 2 people. I did the first one on my own and it required a lot of climbing up am he down the ladder. These are pretty solid and I'd recommend them. With the price of wood I don't think it's worth building out of wood anymore either. Plus paint to look nice. Just go this route instead.

Even with the insane price of lumber , just build your own with a few 2x4s, sheet of plywood, and cheap 90 degree brackets. Probably takes the same amount of time to build both and you can make your own as big of small as you want and save a ton of dough

I always love the "DIY" poster who thinks everyone should just build whatever they want rather than just buying it and saving time and hassle. Not everyone is handy, has the tools to do the work, nor wants to spend time building everything.

This site is for people who want to save money, I don't know many people who don't have a saw and a drill and the time to build it is just as easy and the time it takes would be about the same

These are 4x8. So you're going to need like 7-8 2x4's per shelf. $110 for 2x4's, 75-100 for plywood. Brackets if you go that route as well on top of it. I'm not saying it's more money, but I'd rather have these metal shelf's than wood. It's also nice cause you can push stuff from the bottom because of the grated base. So a box can be pushed from the bottom side to the edge where I can grab it.

I feel like an idiot, but I read their description of how to chose the "Drop down range" and I still don't understand what it means. Anyone care to explain it? Is the "drop down range" the distance from the shelf to the ceiling?
