That appears to be a YMMV clearance price back in 2018. The Blue Hawk racks are no longer sold at Lowes. These were most likely clearanced because of the 25% steel tariff imposed by Trump back in March 2018.

Many of the people in the thread couldn't get that price depending on their zip code. I've never had any luck with brickseek and YMMV deals on slickdeals. Every time I go to get a deal, the store's inventory is wrong and they didn't have any in stock.

I fully ignore YMMV threads. I never have luck with them in my area. I think some unemployed people spend all their time on slickdeals and snipe deals, then resell them on facebook marketplace or something.

I just checked the lowes website now. The Monsterrax and Gladiator 4x8 rack are $152($179 reg) and $159.99 each. That's $300- $320 for 2 racks, and no hangers or accessories included. So I don't know what you're talking about.

$240 for two 4x8 racks is a great deal.

I got this deal last time it was offered and it's great. Installed it by myself, I used an A frame ladder to hold one side of the cross beam while I bolted in the other side.

When pricing them out, this deal, given the quality and thickness of steel is actually very good. Most kits that get you close to this price range, require you to buy plywood for the base, while this kit comes with the steel grate base and extra hanging hooks that are very useful.

I bought a bunch of those black totes with the yellow lids and this totally free'd up all the floor space in my garage. I'm so happy I did this.

I installed last fall, very happy. The inclusion of hooks is what makes this deal stand out compared to other comparable racks.

Easy to install if you have a second set of hands. There are some videos on youtube that make it painless.

Any tips on finding joists in the ceilings?
20 dollar stud finder then Predrill with a tiny drill bit. Joist will be 16 or 24 inches about.

You can also use some extendable magnets and attach them to the nail heads.

I've had these racks for about a year, they're great.

This is a very good deal! I bought this on the last deal and install was pretty easy with my wife helping. We mainly use it to store Tupperware bins with all our seasonal decorations. The shelves are pretty big too. I was only able to use one so the other is taking up space on my garage floor! 🤣🤣

I do have stud finder but I tell you last summer when I went to install brackets for garage door opener, it was so hard to find it. Its the zircon brand from menards. For the door opener, I managed to make sure I was drilling into the joists by installing it a little a bit and pulling out to confirm I saw some wood dust with it. Also triple checked that the stud finder was consistently showing the location in same place multiple times. I just a bit extra cautious because it'll be a lot of weight on the rack and wouldn't want the whole thing to be dropped.

I wish the 2'x8' would go on sale, bc these are too large for my garage. Excellent deal.
They were last month, normally are a couple times a year. I got one, thinking about this instead for another $75 to double it up.

Is this a good deal? Been considering getting more storage in the garage
Build an additional. This is accident waiting to happen. And pulling ladders out every time u have to get an item and searching through all the boxes 10ft up and moving the ladder might get old instantly

I have this rack and it's awesome. Various included hooks are great to hang stuff like beach chairs, ladders and bikes. As a side effect installing this rack made me realize I have too much crap in the house, so instead of buying more racks I started throwing things out which is solving my storage situation free of charge.

Says the guy trolling on a deals site for more junk...
Lol, I try to give or sell 1 thing before I buy anything new. If I'm looking for new clothes, I usually give away old clothes first.

These look like glorified clutter catchers. Would be better (and cheaper) to just clear out the junk in the garage and donate it to Goodwill.

Now if only they sold an affordable diy kit to raise my garage ceiling high enough to make this work ... This is great for storage in new construction garages less great if your garage rafters are less than 12 feet above the floor.

I feel like an idiot, but I read their description of how to chose the "Drop down range" and I still don't understand what it means. Anyone care to explain it? Is the "drop down range" the distance from the shelf to the ceiling?
Picture 4 on the product page says everything you want to know.

Can you mount these flush with the wall? Even when the stud is flush to the wall?
Also I assume no issues with mounting side by side

The builder told me not to install these things in the garage because the ceiling can't support it. Are they telling me that to protect themselves because they didn't follow building codes to save on building materials? It's a single-story built 10 years ago.
Every builder will tell you the same thing. They don't want you complaining because you hung hundreds of pounds on your ceiling and it started to sag.
Also, not every joist you find holding up your ceiling will be a solid piece of wood. They also use particle board sandwiched between two 1x2s (Engineered joists). Mounting a rack directly to those 1x2s would be a bad idea.

So uh, how do you store seasonal items like sports equipment, decorations, etc? These are great for those items that you switch out every season.
