I think it's fair to warn people about this. Yes, it's in the fine print. How many other "gift cards" have the same limitation? If they called them something else (discount card?) then they might prevent this for other customers.

Fyi, on the Texas De Brazil, you can't use them if they are running any type of promotion, even if it's a slice of cake. In every promotion I've seen since my issue with their gc, in the fine print, it will say something like, 'promotion cannot be used with white gift cards.'

I got burned a few years ago. Bought these from Sam's, and wanted to use with a promo on the radio I heard for TdB. 20th anniversary iirc. Went and wasn't allowed to use the white gift cards for TdB. Was pissed. Sam's managers told me to contact TdB, and TdB told me to contact Sams. Sam's corp wouldn't respond to emails.

Likely. I haven't been keeping track of these during the last year ... for some reason... but Sam's usually only discounts GCs further during big seasonal sales. I'll still probably selectively pick up a few if we have any of the Discover 5% remaining towards the end of the quarter.
(Also, you can buy Sam's GCs and use them at Walmart to get 5% there also, but the wife got talked into applying for a WM credit card by a friend. They have 5% off in store for the first year when using the card via walmart pay.)

The fine print clearly said you cannot use GC with promotion. I was mistake you made. What is there to fight about? They got your money and they are not going to do anything about it. Use it for next time.

Same. Went in for my birthday meal and tried to use the birthday coupon. They wouldn't let me. My fault for not reading the fine print on the card but they 100% should not be calling these gift cards. Also my fault for eating at Texas De Brazil. It's probably pandemic related but the meat was sparse and very overcooked. About the only thing they came to the table with more than once was some kind of baked chicken. Quality here has taken a huge nose dive.

The promotion isn't the issue, it's these specific cards that are listed as a gift card, which every other store takes as a cash equivalent. Yes, it's on the consumer to understand what they are buying, but it doesn't change the fact that they are stretching the normal use of the term "gift card".

They just did a half off sale that stacked with the GC. 3 large subs and already had a free cookie for less than 20.
