I think it's fair to warn people about this. Yes, it's in the fine print. How many other "gift cards" have the same limitation? If they called them something else (discount card?) then they might prevent this for other customers.

Fyi, on the Texas De Brazil, you can't use them if they are running any type of promotion, even if it's a slice of cake. In every promotion I've seen since my issue with their gc, in the fine print, it will say something like, 'promotion cannot be used with white gift cards.'

I got burned a few years ago. Bought these from Sam's, and wanted to use with a promo on the radio I heard for TdB. 20th anniversary iirc. Went and wasn't allowed to use the white gift cards for TdB. Was pissed. Sam's managers told me to contact TdB, and TdB told me to contact Sams. Sam's corp wouldn't respond to emails.

The promotion isn't the issue, it's these specific cards that are listed as a gift card, which every other store takes as a cash equivalent. Yes, it's on the consumer to understand what they are buying, but it doesn't change the fact that they are stretching the normal use of the term "gift card".

Those aren't the same at all. It isn't a coupon. It isn't a discount. It's a GC. It's supposed to be same as cash for use in that store.

Nope, when I had bought them, it didn't state that. They added that like a year later , iircon sams.com

As for the promo I went in on, I 'd heard it on the the radio. the gift cards do say that, but give me a break, who reads that. that little loophole is BS, and you know it. I've always used GC's as cash at other restaurants and never once had an issue

Oh snap, I'm glad I read this. I have been eyeing the $200 for $150 @ Costco then signing up for the VIP club card they push. So these would have been useless for me.

Just signed up through the discover and also got an extra $45 giftcard directly through samsclub. Had to go into the store after signing up online but got gc in hand at cs.

I feel like that is something you could contact your state's AG regarding? I'm no lawyer, but I'm under the impression gift cards are the same as cash legally, therefore if it's called a gift card that restriction would be illegal.

I bought many Panda Express gift cards from Sam's club and most never worked because they didn't have the PIN numbers like the gift cards Panda Express directly sells! I was smart enough to not throw away those and made one hour call to Pei Wei for replacement gift cards that has PIN numbers

That's a promo that they run frequently - sign up for $45, get $45 off your first purchase. Let your membership expire after a year, then sign up again when they're running the promo again!
