Hey, this is my first ever post, so I don't know the etiquette for posting - please don't jump on me. Just trying to help others avoid the mistake I made.
If like me, you don't have any of the Marvel titles, you can can get the Marvel Collection Bundle on sale which has all 3 games and DLC for $13:
Well, the first one has X-Men characters and the Fantastic Four. The Avengers one is based around the films, so if you love the films and the TV shows, that is the one to get, the 2nd one (technically the third, because Avengers was the second game released) contains the most characters and a huge open world, but no X-Men or Fantastic Four anymore. They're all pretty great for different reasons. I'd get the triple pack with all of the DLC like suggested above. That's definitely the cheapest way to enjoy them all.
So my question is , if you love lego dimensions, how will this compare? Specifically to The LEGO Movie Videogame, but to the others as well? TIA
They're more contained to their own comic universe, but the combat is similar, and there are at least a hundred different characters to play. Though, a large majority of them are Iron Man and Spider Man clones.

Marvel #2 was my son's favorite - it's got a bit of an open world feel to it.
Avengers was a bit clunky with the cutscenes recreating movie moments (weird combination of the typical lego grunts/humor with actual voice over audio from the film).
But agreed with the others, buy the complete collection.
Lego Skywalker Saga is being released later this year, so maybe hold off on getting the SW versions if you want to play in higher res.
I wonder what the track record is around these sales and the games inclusion in game pass. Would be sneaky to drop the price to get some sales then offer it up to game pass a couple weeks later...
I have the ones I want from this sale from a previous sale. Definitely recommend getting the Marvel bundle referenced by others, especially since it includes all content for all titles.

The Lego games go on sale pretty frequently across all systems. I think they were close to these prices two weeks ago on the Switch.

My son and I have played a bit of both. We have The Lego movie video game and, frankly, it bores my 7 yo son. The issue is that when we first started the game you are in a training studio - used to teach you skills for the game like in many other games. The problem is the training studio lasted a long time. Longer than he wanted to do. This is because you do things like "do some judo move 15 times
In comparison, we found Lego dimensions more about exploration. "Let's check out this totally different universe". There was no grinding
