Someone who would want the unlimited original quality Photos storage benefit offered by Google until Jan 31st 2022 [google.com], and high quality indefinitely (no announced end date) afterword.

Google Photos announced they would start counting photos uploads against storage after June 1st, 2021 [google.com]. I take a LOT of photos/video and upload a lot onto the platform, even in high quality it is over 4TB uploaded. The storage benefit on Pixel phones are by device, not by account. Also you don't have to actually take the photos on the phone to upload them, just have them on the device. No problem for me especially since I'm loading upwards of 30GB at a time.

I don't mind the people saying "but it's the cloud", and I do have other backups, but the stellar object recognition, mapping of photos, and power of the service they offer can't be beat in my opinion.

Just because the phone loses updates does not mean it stops functioning. Most phones from other manufacturers rarely get updates after the first year, and some never do.

At this point, Android is pretty established, so most of these full version updates are purely vanity updates.

What is more of an issue is security. Without security updates and kernel patches, you run the risk of your whole world crumbling.

If your phone is compromised, there's way too much that can be accessed.
If you are that much worried about security, you shouldn't pay $100 for a cheap phone. Spend more on something guaranting you security instead.

IIRC the photo needs to be taken and uploaded by the pixel. You would need to forge the image metadata as well.

Really? I've imported pictures to other phones that have Google Photos on them, and those photos have been uploaded to Google Photos.

Or is the free offer only for photos with the Pixel meta-data?

Wow.. again?! sup with Google and their reoccurring battery issues on their phones? l got $400 for a settlement on my Nexus 6P bout 1.5 years ago.. Im pretty sure there was a class action on the Nexus 5x as well.. an you know what they say bout those that make the same mistake thrice!
Yea, I had the same issues with my 6P, but I didnt get any $$ as they just replaced the phone. I do wish Google would bring back the Nexus nameplate and use it to sell their flagship phones, as from what I understand, the Pixel line is now leaning towards just mediocrity without high-end specs. I'm currently on a 2XL and trying to decide if it's worth the upgrade or not to a 3XL.

Just curious, why?
Because the problem (at least for me) was some gook on the contacts that just wouldn't come off otherwise, and that you couldn't really see...

I'll let you know when I receive mine but I'll take the Amazon reviews with a grain of salt. The one good thing it's thru Amazon and they are very good with returns if it's not what's described.
I stopped buying from eBay because of that. Seller saying it's new or new, open box and you received an used product heavily scratched.

He's actually serious. The Pixel 3 gets gunk build-up in the USB-C port. I don't know WHY this isn't affecting other phones.
It does affect other phones! Same thing happened with my old Leeco LeMax 2, my adult daugther's Samsung S9, and my current Pixel 3aXL. If you routinely pocket your phone they pick up lint and it builds up almost imperceptibly, until it's thick enough to keep the charge cable from fulling engaging in the port. I was amazed how much lint I pulled out the first time I cleaned an USB-C port.

IMHO, the best feature of these phones is that they buy you continued unlimited "high quality" photo uploads to Google Photo.

Downside: The pics have to be uploaded from the Pixel.

So I guess that means finding an efficient way to transfer photos from another phone to the Pixel and then using the Pixel to upload to the cloud.

Is there any free and automated method for pushing photos from another phone to the Pixel, where they will then get a free upload?

.
My Plan B is to switch to Amazon for unlimited photo backups since I have Prime. I would need a solution for unlimited video backups though...

It felt like a clown car, the way lint kept coming out!

Is this true and accurate?. Would I be able to transfer my photos to the pixel and then use google photos to upload to the cloud after the deadline?
If that is the case, it'll be worth it to buy the phone just for that. It's a little inconvenience but if I can retain my unlimited storage. I would totally buy this for $100.
Yah this totally works. I am doing it right now I transfer all my s21 pictures to my computer for.bacj up then upload them the DCIM folder on pixel 3 via usb c and it goes to google photos at original quality. Doesn't use up my space allotment.

It's a problem with the 2/2xl also. Apparently the lint is one problem but another is the contacts have the tendency to corrode.

My guess is poor quality/design of the port and something weird with the software.

After mine stopped working I cleaned it out super well and now it still doesn't work with the oem charger (shuts down immediately), fast charges with an ANKER charger one way then if you flip the plug it will sometimes shut down. It will always charge with a USB A to USB c connector.

I have a Pixel 3 and the charging port doesn't work anymore...the camera also doesn't work. I wouldn't recommend this phone at all.
Same on a 2xl. Many people had their cameras stop working following an update with no acknowledgment from Google. That's the one thing that's making me really struggle with choosing them again

How is the battery condition on this S&D refurbished phone? 80% of the max capacity or better?
