Thanks, always appreciate the aquarium alerts, but seems a little overly complicated and subject to maintenance issues compared to my Fluval 406 that's still kicking since 2012. All I've done besides regular cleaning is used the $26 motor head maintenance kit 3 times (when you're supposed to use it yearly!)

Think I'll pass on this one, but thanks for the aquarium deal.

Ditto on everything except my Fluval 304 for 20 years.

This is the overpriced fluval canister you definitely don't want. I've heard nothing but bad things. That said I do otherwise appreciate aquarium deals. Thank you for sharing.

Pretty pricey for such a small filter, but also appreciate the aquarium deals.

Honestly, when I run a sub 40 gallon, it is with an established sponge filter for fry. Dirt cheap and effective. Power outage? No biggie for a couple hours.

I'm using the sunsun Hw-402b (it has built in uv light) on my 75 gallon. It was under 100 bucks even with the added media i had to buy. Been running for a few weeks, no issues.

The thing would look cool with all the digital readouts and gizmos in an open display tank and it is less than half of the original retail price.

I got a Penn-Plax Cascade 1200 off a slickdeal last year. I've only just begun to set it up for my turtle. This is my first canister filter, does anyone have any cheap recommendations for filter tray media for a noob like me? TIA.

cheapest would be some lava gravel or pumice and some filter floss. otherwise just get some ceramic rings.

Always love aquarium deals, but this filter is kind of the black sheep of the Fluval filter family. I think thats why the deal is available. The 05-07 series and the FX series are much more user-friendly than this one. Keep the aqua deals coming though!

As someone that has owned several FX5's and and FX6, everyone seems to love them. I think they are a pain in the ass to clean compared to other filters. Not to mention it is rarely mentioned that many of the parts on them tend to break and cost an arm and leg to fix when it happens. I've broke several of the stupid little clamps, as well as one of mine the bottom valve handle broke off with the valve stuck open. Needless to say, I'm not much a fan, for 1/4 of the cost you could build a sump and have much better filtration capacity.
