Got top and bottom heating element, which is good. Don't need to turn it over to toast anything.

Also I saw a review where someone says that it must preheat before any cooking function and there's no way to bypass it. If that's true I'll pass on this

Any idea how this compares to a $300 smart convection oven?

The thing I don't like about my current cheaper unit is that the fan, circulation is rather weak compared to something like an air fryer.

I saw that too (on Costco website) but I also checked the user manual from Galanz website. It looks like for certain functions (air fry, bake for example) there is preheat. But for toast, bagel and a few other functions there's no preheat step. I ordered one from Home Depot.
