It can but the traction isn't so great so there are some inserts you can buy for the drive wheel to grab into.

We have both wood and these track masters. The motorized ones do fine on the straight and mild curves. But the inclines and sharp curves they just spin their wheels. They are too long and wide as well for the bridges.
