I have this CPU and was able to get all cores to turbo at 4.7ghz so it's right on par with the K out of the box. The K will OC to 5.1 so it is a bit faster but not worth the premium IMO.
This price is good. I still prefer a 3900x or 3950x - even though they are older - for the cores. 3900 still over $500... but, then again, it is a great chip and is actually available.
I have one pc with the 10700k and a 3090 w/ 16gb 3200 2x8 ram and it is a really good gaming setup. I also have a 3900x with a 3070 and 64 mb of 2400 4x16 ram and it, too, runs games just fine... yes 2400 ram is perfectly fine. You can get faster, but if you have DDR4 already, there is no reason not to use it for the moment. The 3900x is phenomenal with CPU intensive uses like photoshop or just as a VM machine w/ several VM's running. Honestly, anything that is Zen 2 or 3 is a fantastic processor, and any Intel processor that is 10th gen and up; 9th gen for the 9900k... are absolutely monsters of machines. You really can't go wrong with any of these processors. I say go with whatever motherboard you have or like and go from there.

I have 256 mb of pc166, sure it is a little slower than your 2400, but I would totally recommend upgrading to at least 256 mb, I mean I think you want to have at least 3X the ram as you do L3 cache

This is a project with my grandson and it involves his buy in on this processor. Any deals on reliable WIFI MOBOs to go with this?
Thanks all,
Also have 3600 RAM coming next week.
