No. 5000 series has the open slot. LPDDR4X is soldered ram, and almost always not upgradable
Thanks, 8gb soldered ram is a deal breaker for me. Otherwise nice specs.
An XPS 9310 with similar spec and 1920x1200 resolution display, will cost you at least $1000. You'll get slightly better build quality, smaller foot print due to smaller screen size and brughter display which is better for outdoor visibility.
Apart from that, you are not missing anything but actually getting something over XPS.

It has higher resolution QHD 16:10 display and it is slightly bigger as well. the 330 nits brightness is enough for indoor use, even in brightly lit rooms.
You are getting Thunderbolt 4 port + Legacy USB-A Ports and HDMI 2.0 ports whereas XPS only gives you Thunderbolt 4 Type-C port and you need a hub for plugging your legacy accessories.
The build quality, while not XPS level, is very good, with full metal construct and it is very light weight as well.
Now, the price is almost half of a similarly configured XPS which is really great for this device and what it offers.

I was interested until I saw the 8GB of soldered RAM. You either have to be an email only person, or lack an understanding of how crippling 8GB can be to doing... well, virtually anything I do on a computer at least.

Anything that even remotely smells of an apple trick gets a hard pass from me, and soldered RAM stinks...

8gb is fine, my work PC only has 8Gb where I open many apps at once. It lags a few times when I have large spreadsheet.

I wouldn't let a friend buy one, but go ahead.

I easily, and routinely, max out 16gb.

Actually, here is a recent XPS 13 deal with similar specs and similar price.
