Mac pricing on RAM and storage is always ridiculous. Great hardware but the cost to upgrade to appropriate amounts of memory is way too high.

Go with the official apple refurbs instead. Mine arrived like new, with a full warranty. 16GB RAM 256GB HDD for $1019. Thats the sweet spot right now IMO.

I feel like people exaggerate this a bit. You can do a lot more than browsing, watching videos before you run out of 8gb. I use 2012 Mini with 8gb and SSD daily and have no issues running more involved apps for photo and video editing. Yes, it's slow but I don't do this professionally so waiting few seconds longer is not an issue.

Unless you are doing those memory demanding tasks on daily basis which probably constitutes less that 5% of users you will be just fine.

Also, 4 years free warranty on purchase with Costco CC is a nice icing on the cake.

Well in this model it's all integrated so you should make a pick carefully, since no upgrades afterwards.

This is a great price, however reading into the configuration, 8GB RAM is insufficient and will cause premature wear on the SSD. The problem is, there are no 16GB configurations available for the M1 Air at Costco... Would buy otherwise.

I just saw that. Around the time I ordered it, I've been in the hospital and slowly trying to recover my health and financially. I haven't even been able to use it yet, and it's over 90 days; so I'm going to see if they will price adjust it for me.

Suggestion. Dont buy 8gb ram if you will do anything more than browsing, watching videos etc.
M1 16gb version is great, even if u get 256gb ssd and kicks out most of the high end intel
Would having one browsing window with about 10 tabs and another browsing window with about 20 tabs be too much?
For my job, I need to scroll through all the tabs and refreshing them the entire shift.

The work computer is ancient and takes a couple seconds to reload a page and with how time sensitive my job is, it was making my job hard so I have to use my laptop. It works well, probably a second to refresh or switch tabs. But I wonder if I buy a new laptop that it'll be faster than my current one, making my job more easy as I'll be more efficient. Mines an hp, 8gb, at least 3 years old.

Originally I thought that the internet was slow until I brought my laptop and holy shit did most of my stress disappear once I didn't have to deal with the lag anymore.

The benchmarks don't show 16gb to be necessary, even for stuff like 4k video editing.

The real concern is SSD swap use but only if you're planning on this base model macbook to be your ride or die machine for 5-10 years.
