I've had two out of three Orbi RBK50 kits and one RBK852 (wifi 6 models) fail almost immediately for me. Horrible satellite speeds, main router locking up and rebooting multiple times daily, just a generally horrible experience. Obviously that's a small sample group but 75% failure rate is enough to make me never touch the brand again. Maybe the pros are different, but I wouldn't get my hopes up
I have this system, with a single satellite. Outstanding router.
I have a different tri band mesh Orbi product that is relatively new. Pretty fast and excellent coverage, however they rush their firmware before proper testing. The most recent release of the Orbi firmware got messed up due to daylight saving time. Then when I called I found they require you to pay for $80/yr subscription tech support even when the product is under the 1 year warranty window. So, a good product if it doesn't break, but if it does be prepared to go buy a new one even within the warranty period.

Note for anyone looking to get the Orbi system, I had this unit before, out of the three bands you can only use the first 2 with a max speed of 866mbps, the third band is the higher speed one (1700mbps) and that is only for the wireless backhaul, even if you connect it with an Ethernet cable you still lose out on the third band

Now at this price I would recommend this unit, however at original price I would recommend something else if you want true triband functionality

I bought this model when it came out and added an extra satellite to work in a hub and spoke configuration. Hardware wise, this is a good product but the software is beyond awful when you compare to other brands like asus, linksys or tplink. I also pay for the netgear insight subscription service which does enhance the product a lot. Here is the thing though, aside from cloud access and email notifications, the other features with insight are built in to other brand consumer solutions. The software features on these mesh routers have been purposely crippled so that netgear can sell you them through a premium subscription. Their service is awful as well. Expect them to feed you the basic workflow of resetting the base router plus satellites and repairing them just so they can resolve your issue. This is annoying but you need to physically touch a button to pair the base with the satellites. It's also takes a few minutes to pair. Also, expect the issue to resurface after a week. I don't even care about this mesh router anymore. I'm waiting until it becomes unusable and I will buy a new one from a different brand. I don't think I will purchase a netgear product ever again. My router has been spamming curl errors and the router web server will sometimes fail. Sometimes certain satellites will be in a semi working state where just wan traffic is broken. Below some screenshots of the dashboard warnings and how netgear still categorized it as being okay. I can't think of any good reason why you should buy this product. Netgear disabled and hid a lot of features and in the process broke a lot of functionality. Here's some screenshots for proof. https://imgur.com/a/u1psBRW I'm only still using it because I already dropped almost $1k fooling myself into thinking this was a good product.

This has worked well for me for sharing fios in a large home with many devices, but the software is a joke and WiFi range is average (I use three units). Try powerline first before you go too deep in these kinds of mesh setups is my recommendation!

I have 1G fiber connection and get 978Mbps over wired connection. Do any of these mesh networks offer >700Mbps over wifi?

Don't know about these but my RBK50 system has been rock solid for a couple years. It does make you do an mobile app based setup and I can see why people may not like that. There is a conventional web interface from the router after it is up and running and the capabilities are reasonable. It ain't DD-WRT but it handles the things most people want.

I have the RBK60 with 2 satellites that I received to test they have been rock solid even with beta firmware, no issues at all. My wife has been working from home for the past year and I set up one of the satellites with a desktop and printer hardwired. It has been rock solid with no reboots at all?

Maybe I just got lucky hard to say but to me it is a great mesh system, my house is 2 stories and about 3200 sq ft with a lot of streaming cameras. I actually run 2 separate routers pretty much all the time as I am usually testing one. Most recent was Linksys Wifi 6+ router it was pretty amazing as far as speed close to the router but once you move away you really need that mesh system to keep the speed up around the house.

The router will work with any modem, or if you have an IP address coming from your provider. You can also attach it via ethernet to another router and if you want you can turn the wifi off of the first router.

The companies REALLY want you to use the apps but for me the desktop makes the most sense 99% of the time. I don't have kids that I am worried about using the internet after they are supposed to be in bed or anything like that.

I keep the guest network off usually but did have a salesman come over and I turned it on for him so he could have internet access.

I have a lot of IOT devices as well as cameras so I believe my "normal" data level is pretty high the cameras store the data locally so it does not eat up my data cap but does use bandwidth.

The only thing I don't do that much of is playing online games no PlayStation or X box and I do have Satellite TV so we do not stream that much TV even though I subscribe to several streaming services

The big thing for me is that I have had the Orbi for over a year now and no issues with heat.
Many routers want to be small but in reality they are doing a lot of work and generate heat. heat is what causes routers to hang as well as certain OS issues, the Orbi is pretty large.
My daughter was having router issue and I set it to restart once a week automatically and it has been fine ever since.

I'm in the same boat. I just got a few MacBook Pro laptops; so looking to improve WiFi speed but not break the bank.

My current rb50 get about top off at 500Mbps.

anyone know if this works with Frontier FIOS?
I have been renting their router and would love to not pay their equipment fee...

No, this doesn't include a router. I'm not sure about frontier, but I ended up buying a router and modem (2 separate things) so I wouldn't need to rent from Comcast. This satisfies the router part, but you also need a separate modem.

I agreed. Got an Orbi RBK50 last year. Didn't work. Tried to call Customer Services 3 times. Each time I had to wait for more than an hour before referring to a technical staff member in India. They kept asking me to repeat the same procedures for almost two hours in vain, and refused to issue an returning order when nothing worked out.
I gave up.
Before trashing the unit, I looked into the bottom of the box. A receipt for a previous customer was there. What a horrible experience for buying directly from the manufacturer.
Next time, if I want to buy a product from this company, I shall get it from Costco or Amazon where I can return a bad unit.

Costco has the RBK753s orbi 3 pack (router and 2 satellites) for $499. Seems like a good deal. I don't pay for Comcast Gig speed and have a 2000sqft house. Router location in middle of house. The satellites would allow one in office and once in garage.

Not sure if it's too much for my situation, just wife, I and baby.

I've had Orbi AC2200 for a year now. Would not buy again:

1) Poor transmission through corners (had to buy a satellite to place in my daughter's room, and they can run as much as $100/each), although good transmission otherwise. The range isn't as amazing as the ads lead you to believe, but it's better than any non-mesh router I've owned in the past.

2) This is a deal killer for me: If you want to schedule when you turn off internet for certain devices (e.g., for kids at night time), you will spend $50/year for the feature. You can turn off by hand at any time through the app, but have to pay for scheduling.

I have the 4 pack orbi 2200. We bought the pro version and set it up in one of our offices last year. The pro is no better than the non pro version. They are up to par speed and range wise. I was surprised that satellites on the pro were harder to pair than the non pro version.

Highly recommend Orbi's mesh wifi system. The only other one I've tried is TP-Link Deco m5 and I had so many issues with that one. Connection wouldn't stop dropping every single day and iPhones struggled to stay connected and was a pain in the ass to reconnect to it.

I returned the m5 and went with the Orbi. It was so simple to set it up. I've used it for almost a whole year now and I haven't had any connection issue inside of my three story house (~2500sqft). It's amazing what just one satellite can do. I have the main router in the main level that covers both main and the second floor, and I set up the satellite in the basement.

I use NETGEAR CM1000 for the modem and pay for the 400Mbps internet speed and I consistently get around 200-300 Mpbs download and 15-20 for upload upstairs. Around 150-200 download and 10-15 upload in the basement. This is with 30+ different devices connected to the same network.

I've recommended these to several different people who live in a similar three story house and they all love it.

One thing they could improve is their app. Things you can do in there are pretty limited. Although you can access the router from your internet browser which has more controls.

Factor into the price, add the cost to your health and ability. No one is immune to the toxic effects well documented by "unpopular" science beginning largely with military when microwaves were implemented for radar and communication. Many health robust males became sickly over time with constant exposure to low-level microwave radiation that is shown in tens of thousands of well designed studies to undermine several functions of biology.

Common symptoms:
Insomnia
Headache
Dizzyness
Depression
Anxiety
Irritability
Ringing in the Ears
Skin Problems (rash, burning, itching)
Joint Pain

and numerous other issues resulting in inflammation and hormonal dysregulation (e.g. low testosterone, impaired glucose metabolism etc.)

https://www.eesc.europa.eu/resour...tralia.pdf

I care about you as a living being; that is why I share this. I have nothing to gain. The industry has billions to lose from the truth about their tech coming to light to the general population, that is why they have brainwashed people into reacting without thought, discarding the facts as "conspiracy" or in some other way unbeliveable.

Honestly, having dealt with Netgear customer service, I'd only buy their stuff from Costco or Amazon where CS is more generous allowing returns. They will try to sell you on that garbage warranty subscription and will never look into hardware issues. They will just lie and say they tested the hardware and it's fine. I had to explain my situation to Amazon to get money back for a combo modem/router that was malfunctioning and within the 1 year warranty.

I purchased an older Orbi system for my parents. Had issues initially b/c they had 3 satellites too close to each other but switching to using only 2 made it work a lot better. A huge downside to these systems is the router settings/interface. The Orbi app is garbage, only connects to the system half the time and takes a while to load. Never forgets to ask if you want to subscribe to their premium service though! Viewing basic features like bandwidth usage and monitoring are labelled "premium" features that you need to pay a monthly subscription for and there are very limited amount of settings/customization that can be done with the network.

I have Synology gear at home and it is night and day comparing the Synology Router Manager to Netgear's app.
