These shoes aren't bad for the price. However, if you're serious about hiking, spend a little more and look at the REI used site. Essentially new shoes for half the price. The top names will offer features not found in shoes at this price point. If the increased stability and grip prevents a single accident the slight price premium will be well worth it. I'd recommend brands like Salomon, La Sportiva and Altra.
Awesome tip. Looking for good hiking shoes after getting a national park pass, and buying used on REI is a great idea, didn't know this existed!

Just like tires, softer compounds give more grip at the expense of having a shorter life. Wearing a specialty shoe that'll give excellent grip, especially when a slip while hiking could seriously injure you, is a no brainer.
That being said, I noticed the extra traction right away when I wore mine. Comfy to me as well, but I'm also used to working on my feet 8+ hours a day in work boots.

Ive had the same issue with other deals from them. Wish there was a way to just filter these out.
I should mention that buying this way is a little different than buying new from REI. You do have to add $7 to the price for shipping and, if you return them, that shipping cost is on you too. So, just make sure you know your correct size before ordering. The website will tell you the condition each pair is in. From my experience, "Excellent" looks brand new and "Lightly Worn" is very minor and cosmetic only.

Found then stiff and narrow. Stiff might be ok as it goes away with break in period but these shoes are quite narrow
