Walmart sells stainless steel sets for $20, why spend 25 times more ? Lol
My girl friend spent like 800 for her set of Allclad and they are over 10 years old and look brand new. If these are the same type of AllClad I would definitely purchase.

Eggs will stick at the wrong temperature.
I have decent stainless steel set and also my seasoned iron cast, When not in rush like in weekends I do my omelet perfectly fine on them. During the week, and in rush, I've cursed myself for being lazy and not using the my iron cast, leaving mess behind ruining my fried egg I intended for breakfast

Oh man, this is tough. This looks like a great set, and I cook daily. Debating this or Cuisinart on sale at Amazon at half the price.

I have been looking at these sets. I fully agree you are better off buying individual pieces versus a set. However, the sum total of the individuals equal more than the the set with additional pieces that must likely will collect dust.

How does this set compare with the Sam's Club 14 piece tri-ply Tramontina for 200?

Thanks.

Steve
I own tramotina and a single all clad pan. The all clad was more expensive and I get annoyed if I scratch or blemish the pan.

Things cook up just fine in the tramotina and they look just as nice.

allclad is made in america. If this deal was going on while I was shopping I would probably sucker myself into it. If you have the extra $$$ go for it.

Just curious, what's the purpose of wiping off the couple of drops of oil?
The proper way to season cast iron is to wipe all surfaces with oil, and then wipe almost clean; you basically just want a thin sheen of oil. When you heat up the pan, it polymerizes into a hard, nonstick surface. If the oil is too thick, it doesn't harden up as well -- it can even be sticky -- and will flake off easily.

In cast iron, over time this process -- before and after cooking -- builds up a terrific non-stick patina. You CAN repeatedly season stainless steel exactly like cast iron, but the smooth steel surface doesn't allow the patina to hold on well, so it's not worth the effort. And one of the nice things about stainless is that it's not water- or acid- averse like cast iron, against which the patina is a barrier. But the quick pre-cooking wipes and preheat do still seem to help a lot with sticking on the steel.

I have a few All Clad pans that I purchased from Ming's closing of his restarant in Wellsley, MA.

They are, without a doubt, the very best stainless steel pans I've ever used ... and I'm 70! They heat up perfectly and clean like a breeze. Kudos to All-Clad.

Just wish they were more afforable, but I understand that extreme quality comes with a price.

I'm just an enthusiast so do your own research but the few All Clad peices I own are an absolute joy to cook with and I look forward to recipes that allow me to use them. I won't recommend this specific set because I dont own it (yet...). They come with a lifetime warranty and the bud quality reflects that.
If you can afford these, you will not be disappointed. All Clad stuff is amazing. I have a few and it's almost magical how different they are from all other pans. Maybe you'll see.

I had the cuisinart set for a couple years. Got my all clad set today. All clad seems to have a lot more mass and better finish.

Good to hear a comparison.

I have one Cuisinart pan that's been pretty nice, and I really debated and spent more time looking at comparison/reviews than I care to admit (since the Cuisinart set is cheaper). In the end I pulled the trigger on the All-Clad. The only negative (besides price) I could find was people complain about the handle comfort -- but I don't understand folks that grab a handle from the top.

This should be a nice upgrade from my 23-year-old Tools of the Trade stainless from Macy's -- they really should have been replaced several years ago.

You're not going to want to try to make an omelette or scrambled eggs in anything other than nonstick IMO. My carbon steel (not all-clad, which is stainless) does a good job with fried eggs — but I don't use my all-clad if I'm concerned about sticking.
You're overcooking your eggs or using too high heat if that is an issue.

Follow something like this or similar and you are golden. [youtu.be] You can see there's no issues with it sticking.

While I recommend the brand, it is better to buy the individual pieces you'd use rather than a set that may not meet your needs. I've owned my original All-Clads now for about 20 years and recommend them--but the four pieces I use 90% of the time are the 8 qt stockpot, the 14" frying pan, the 3 qt sauce pan, and the 3 qt saute pan. The other pieces wouldn't get much use--but at least 3/6 of the pieces in this set are worthwhile. The 8" and 10" frying pans really are just too small for most jobs, even cooking for yourself.
I agree. Sets are almost never a good idea. You get a few crucial pieces and some stuff you'd rarely use. And there are other great and better pieces they never include in the sets. I'd probably never use that 2-qt. covered saucepan and would much prefer something like the french skillet or saucier which both have rounded sides.
