Its OK, but not one of the battery powered units.
So you need to be replacing an already installed door bell.

Will most doorbells have that power requirement? Want to get one for my mom who has a traditional doorbell.

Any 18-24V DC adapter will do, like this one. Just have to snake it through to an outlet.

Got one yesterday. Not too many deals around. Fairly easy to replace standard doorbell. Hardest part is determining correct circuit breaker for transformer-bell
