It's been this price multiple times previously, though still a good deal.

There's no need to jump on this at this price unless you really want an a7iii and have access to a EDU account.

Personally I shoot on this camera like a ton of other SD users and love it. It's a great full frame camera and keeps professional work cheap using something like Tamron glass. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to get more seriously into photography, but not totally break the bank on your budget getting setup.

Thumbs up from me. 👍👍👍

Photography is just as much about technique and knowledge as it is about the hardware.
The difference is modern smartphones remove the need for proper knowledge and technique to produce fairly nice photos.
Too many people think buying an expensive camera will make them take better pictures. It wont. You as a person have to be able to use the camera effectively.
All else equal an unskilled individual will take substantially better pictures on a phone.

And a casual driver will drive much better in a Toyota Camry than a Formula One car, lol.

Better than Iphone?

I saw so many guys who claim those cameras are for real photographying hobbiest or pros, but end up with worse pictures than iPhone does. Just let them go away.

So many elitist photographers here talking like dslr and mirrorless cameras dont have auto mode like an iPhone does. These cameras will generally take better pictures than smart phones, especially if it has HDR mode feature available, which is also available for newer smart phone models now. It doesn't take a genius to play around with the aperture, shutter speed, and iso. Sure theres a lot of techniques to learn, but photography isn't rocket science like some elitists claim. Theres a lot of trial and error like every other hobby.

Hey guys, I'm primarily taking RAW shots IP12M with some light photo editing on Affinity/CS2. Obviously this is a better camera but is it worth it given that my use case is outings and family pictures ? My last camera was Rebel 5i and D3200, and its collecting dust.

They're responding to people claiming that phones take better images than a full frame camera. They're not being elitist, they're trying to respond the best way they know how to help fix the misinformation from the trolls.

They are too nice. Fck those morons. Let them remain stupid and use their phones. If they are too fcking lazy to do any kind of research they don't deserve a response nor need to be in these threads.

I've used this camera several times; belongs to a friend. When I visit him and his family, I pick it up with his zeiss 50mm 1.4. Produces decent pictures. Tends to be on the brown side in reproduction. I also found the scrunched up buttons annoying and making adjustments was time consuming. I probably need more time to get acquainted with the setup, but to be honest, I'm so comfortable with my D810 with battery grip that everything is now intuitive to me. Yes, it's heavier, but it's a small sacrifice in exchange for fluid and quick changes to capture the moment before it gets away.

Unless you want to shoot closeups. Or shoot distant subjects. Or shoot wide angle. Or shoot portraits. Or shoot action. Or shoot in a studio. Or shoot street. Or shoot astro. Or shoot in low light.

Computational photography has made the "automatic" mode on phone cameras fairly idiotproof. Computational photography is not well-leveraged in the photography market (yet). So your "auto" mode on a camera like the A7III is going to control things like exposure and white balance, and it will generally try to find a face and prioritize its exposure. It WON'T do some of the more heavy-handed stuff that iPhones and such do, which amounts to creative post-processing baked into the image.

That'll come to the photography market, but there's a lot less R&D in this area, because there's less demand and because these cameras don't just happen to have bleeding-edge silicon in them like phones do. For now if you want to dynamically adjust sharpness or exposure in a subject-aware manner with a camera like the A7III, you're doing it in post, and in most cases you're doing it yourself.

One thing is for sure, a "real" camera is a tool with MUCH greater creative control, and with much more ability to produce a high quality image than any phone. That's not elitism, it's just a fact. Perhaps someday we'll get cell phone cameras that can truly accomplish what you'd get from a 12-1000mm f/1.0 macro lens, but we're not there yet. So some of us haul around 10lbs worth of camera gear, cause we want those results.
