That may be true, but without doing a ton of independent testing, how is one to know the strength, longevity, heat/chemical resistance, removability, etc. of any old adhesive?

Permatex is a known and reliable product. At this price, why mess around with anything else?
OK, but those are all marketed as threadlockers. Your original claim was:
A lot of adhesives that aren't labeled "threadlocker" will do the same thing.

FYI - this is the MEDIUM strength. If you need something stronger/more permanent, get the Permaetx RED threadlocker.

And if you need something eve stonger/ more permanent than Pwematex Red.... get a stick welder!

I don't get too excited about this stuff. A lot of adhesives that aren't labeled "threadlocker" will do the same thing.

There are so many tests that have been done on these products that show this kind of information. Not only that. but they are done as comparisons so you can see how they stack up with other products.

I'm not suggesting this product is bad. If you think it's what you need, then I'm not trying to stop you from getting it. Just saying there are some other great options out there.

Here ya go [youtube.com].

Vibra-TITE was the best. Permatex was about average, but so was everybody else.

Yes. The same guy does similar testing on adhesives, but there are a lot brands more being compared and on many other testing mediums. As this video, he tests strength of the seals under stress.

Coming from personal experience, I can tell you I will use Loctite on just about anything metal and it's going to hold. Again, if you choose to use this, there's nothing wrong with it. You just may save a buck here and there not jumping on a product that says "threadlocker."

Depending on the bolt placement, there are also times I want a thread to stay permanently sealed and I just grab something that will seal it up nicely. This goes beyond metal. You can turn a lot of garbage products into good ones by doing what the manufacturer didn't do.

Have a good one. Smilie

I use this whenever putting your Ikea/Target DIY furniture together where screws meet metal, and use wood glue whenever screws meets wood. Not a wobble after years and a move or two.

Random plug for Harbor Freight's threadlocker products. A bigger bottle with a real lid and are price competitive.

Nothing against permatex, ive used them plenty times before but in my experience these short tubes never have a long life. The cap on it is always flimsy and never seals tight. They will start to dry out or inadvertently get squeezed in the toolbox or while youre working on something. For that reason I chose to buy the vibratite 10ml bottle about a week ago instead which is $6.40 right now. I have a bit more peace of mind with this bottle rather than the permatex tube.

As far as the red threadlocker goes i have the gel, so that one doesn "run out" from the tube as easy where this one "runs out" like water basically.

I was also considering Interstate Pneumatics TRB750K 2 in 1 Thread Locker Kit Includes High/Medium Strength 50ml. It is a red and blue kit with 50ml each. The kit is $16 but each bottle has 50ml instead of 6ml which means they should last til youre about 60 years old. Although long term storage/strength of threadlockers is another topic that im not going to get on about.
