Yep I don't know what they were thinking but s20 to s21 was a downgrade in everything I was using samsung for mainly the microsd card and samsung pay. Both taken away and the camera is like 1 percent better everything else downgrade. They took away the akg earphones and the charger! So lame!

the processor is faster/ 1 generation newer, sd 888 vs sd865. literally the main reason to ever buy electronics.

the screen is flat vs curved. the biggest upgrade for s21.

camera is always the same on all phones forever, now you notice? fake.

charger yeah. lucky me i own the electus 25 dollar 45 watt charger on amazon that supports all samsung fast charging for my s7 tablet already, so i'm good.

also nice that it has wirelress charging

the 1080p screen every single review says you cant notice it.

i'm pretty sure samsung pay was not taken away on a Samsung phone. everyone uses google pay anyway.

i googled and i guess youre talking about the mst. mine is a chipped card anyway so i dont think that even applies to anyone.

"MST is by no means perfect: getting a payment to go through on the first try can sometimes be a challenge, and it's worthless in situations where you have to stick your card all the way into a slot."

My card has chip, I always stick it into slot. So this would not come into play for me. Fail.

if you like old phone buy old phone.

then dont buy it, and stop commenting in Samsung threads. Geesh. That goes for the other 3 whiny willies too.

Apple doesnt have Micro SD either so....what exactly are your options? Almost nobody else still makes high end phones.

GEEZ THE WJINING. And in another thread maybe we'll have a one plus [phone with a Micro SD and all the comments will be OMG CHINA DATA THIEFS not THANK GOODNESS MICRO SD. You people are FAKKKKEEEE not even consistent.

Who is whining? These are important features to consider. Samsung has done this and reverted their decision with the s6 and s7 and that happened because unlike sheeps like you people like us complained they listened.

And yes exactly my current phone is iphone 12 from a s20. You know why? Because if I have to live without a microsd card and samsung pay i rather get an iphone and have guaranteed updates for another 5-8 years which no android phone can ever. And also battery life is day and night difference on s21 and iphone 12, plus iphone has both 5g sub6 as well as mmwave. So obviously Samsung asking people to buy the iphone!

Most cards here in the US has a chip for many years. I don't remember when I saw a chipless card heck many of my cards have nfc and have tap to pay in the card. Samsung pay works for any kind of terminal swipe or insert for chip!

The screen was curved but was 2k vs 1k resolution on the s20.

Even with the sd888 5g battery drain is so terrible virtually unusable. So don't know what the new chip is giving you noticeable advantage for you.

I did buy the s21 after trading in the s20 because I got the s21 for free after trade in and then I sold it and ended up buying the iphone 12 and happy. BTW iphone 12 has a flat screen too and amoled too so all the advantages that samsung had over other phones is literally gone.

I got the S21 Ultra which has the bigger screen that's 3200x1440 resolution. It runs the screen at a default resolution of 2400x1080. I tried comparing the two resolutions, and if I hold the phone like 3 inches from my eye, I can see that icons are slightly higher res. I wouldn't even say sharper, there's just s smidge more detail. I seriously doubt the 1080 screen will be noticeable to 99.9% of people. (Have we already forgotten how 7 years ago we were all complaining that this resolution war was pointless since you couldn't see the difference? Now suddenly people think it's important?)

In retrospect, I probably should've gotten the S21. I got the Ultra because I was concerned about battery life. But I guess the people doing reviews do nothing but sit staring at their phones all day. Reviews said to expect the S21 Ultra battery to last a bit more than a day. It's lasting me 4-5 days of about 2 hours/day screen time. I get so much battery life that I enabled all the battery-hogging features like 3200x1440 resolution, just because. An S21 with 20% smaller battery probably would've been just fine for me.
Quote from uthorns1976 :
What I meant to say originally was that the S21 line does not seem to be selling all that well but I am certainly no expert.
Samsung's mobile division profit was up 66% in 1Q2021 due to S21 sales. Compared to 46% for the company overall. So it would seem that they're selling extremely well.

went for the S21+.... I really really wanted the better telephoto lens on the ultra but i hate curved displays and didnt want an even bigger phone. Plus i refuse to spend $1000 on a phone.
Don't worry, you're not missing much. Both the 3x 70mm (equivalent) lens and 10x 240mm lens are attached to 10 MP 1/3.24" sensors. They're noticeably softer than the main 24mm camera. The resolution on that (108MP, 1/1.33" sensor) is so much better that I think they could've gotten rid of the 70mm lens entirely, and just done a digital zoom in on the 108MP image. Which is basically what they do on the S21 and S21+ (26mm 12MP wide angle camera, 29mm 64MP "telephoto" camera which does a 3x digital zoom).

I was hoping it would relieve me from lugging my Canon 70-200L f/2.8 IS everywhere. But with the image sharpness I'm seeing it'll only substitute for it in about 10%-20% of shots. Still handy to have since it's always in my pocket, but most of the shots where I might use it, I'd be better off getting closer and using the 24mm main camera (or lugging out the 70-200L).

Should last all day unless you have it at 120hz and full brightness. I have the S20+ and it holds very, very well.

Not really, maybe more updates to the os and faster processor. But if you can trade in the 10 and get this phone for less than 300 then it might be worth it

I don't have any Samsung phone. But would you have any knowledge where having good or great trade in discount? I'm currently in return window of a OnePlus 8 Pro. Might consider getting older Samsung or Oneplus to do trade in

Not really a slick deal. And it's not much of an upgrade over the s20.

This price just slightly better than the average price they're available for everywhere. It only seems like a good deal compared to MSRP, which nobody actually pays.

Just wait for Black Friday and it'll be several hundred dollars cheaper.

When people complain about the lack of SD card are the same people who cry and complain about their lost photos when their phone gets lost/broken/stolen.

Backup you photos to a local NAS drive, One drive, Google, ETC. Most without loss of quality.

People shouldn't depend on their phones for file storage. If you're saving more than 256gb of files in a day, you don't need a phone, you need a camera.

I would say yes to everything but Nas drive. Had a Buffalo Nas drive that bricked and lost a ton of photos.

Man, I need a new phone (currently rocking an S7 active lol), but every cell phone thread on SD regardless of brand seems to be full of complaints about battery life, or no SD card, or camera. At this point I'm not even sure what the heck phone /does/ have decent battery life, a good camera, and an SD card slot. And decent water proofing. Seems like that doesn't exist. Or maybe that it doesn't exist for less than a grand. :/

So uh, suggestions on best compromise for <$500? Debating just buying the pixel 3 from the other thread and keeping that for a year or 2. But I don't want to have to charge my phone multiple times a day

The a71 5G which was discounted to about $280 in December and even cheaper with trade-ins. I got one at the time and it's great, headphone jack and SD card slot. There may be further discounts in the future. Samsung also committed to 3 years of Android updates

My next phone will be an iPhone (first ever) if samsung keeps removing things people want. At least up the memory.

Seems like all these new samsung phones are big downgrades. This a71 doesn't even match the 3 year old S9 hardware.

All of the best trade in deals with Samsung directly are gone unfortunately.

Your best shot now is to wait for another carrier trade in deal. T-Mobile was offering insane deals for Mother's Day and for a while before that as well but that is over now. You can still buy a S9 for ~$200 and trade it for $500 in bill credits, but yesterday it was $800 so it kind of sucks to do that now.

Not sure about other carriers, but I would check with yours to see what they are offering.
