I have one that looks identical but finally died after ~10 years on the 3rd car. I would never get anything but the low profile ones like you linked. I don't get the excitement for the big clunky one at $14.

Pro tip: Next time you're asking a question, include a question mark, else it looks like just another random statement that people will skip over.
It's also worked on everyone one of my cars, as well as all of my friend's cars that I helped diagnose.
Between never having to pay someone to do any of these, or take time to travel somewhere to get it done, your savings can ramp up quickly.

It is OK for if you are going to look at a car to buy and you want to see if there any logged fault codes, but sometimes you would want to see live codes to determine how efficient the car is running (Fuel trim). Or you may want to or need to send a command to a device and see if it responding to a command to help you determine if a component is responding to the command (Like turn the radiator fans on) to figure out if it is something else causing the problem. "Bi-directional" is the term to look for in a scanner that has some of those features. I have not found software that does those things for a $10 ELM321 reader.. I want a $5k scanner tool but it is impractical for as often as I would use it.
Find your self a "trusted" shop that has one of these $5k scanners and pay him the $50 to review your codes before you start throwing parts to try to fix a logged fault code. Other issues can cause the code other than the part the code is pointing at. Most auto stores have a reader and they can pull your codes and print them out for FREE, so a good relationship with your local parts store is helpful too.
