PSA: For those of you that typically buy a bundled version each year just for the Payroll..

Quickbooks *Plus* now has a yearly charge that you can't get away from. If you have previously bought QB and upgraded the software each year just because you needed the payroll, think before upgrading your software to this Plus version. If you have QB 2020, you still have two more years of just keeping that software and using this Payroll Key. If you have 2019 you have one more year. If you have 2018, you'll have to upgrade it to keep running payroll.

If you HAVE to upgrade the software to 2021 QB Plus, know this: you have to upgrade the software every year. If you don't, you'll be charged (I believe) $299 just for the pleasure of running the program another year. This is independent of Payroll! So if you install 2021 Plus this year and just buy a retail 2022 to use the payroll and don't upgrade your install to 2022, you'll be charged $299.

This is some shady stuff - shame on Intuit.

Learned this a few weeks ago with a client's upgrade from 2018 Desktop Pro.

That's a good price. In case it helps anyone, I was able to use the Enhanced Payroll portion of this to update my subscription tied to my existing Desktop Pro (not Plus) 2020 version. I have no intention to install the 2021 "Plus" version.

Finally... my payroll key was about to expire. No deals around $200 until now.

Plus looks like it's a subscription. Like T-Roy, I guess I'll stick with my quickbooks desktop and just use the payroll key.

This one costs less than $17 per month for a single employee. Not sure if gusto can be as cheap or cheaper

You will have to soon. I think you can be behind by 2 years but you have to upgrade to the plus in the 3rd

I guess since QuickBooks is forcing this "Plus" subscription version, I am going to have to breakdown and get this. I much rather buy it and be able to use it for several years like in the past. I am the single employee and could just pay my CPA to write my monthly paycheck but after an update QuickBooks now pretends there is a problem with my email account password and I can't email invoices. I haven't needed support on QuickBooks for over 15 years but since they keep promoting how this "Plus" version is such a value because of the unlimited support, I will truly test the unlimited part and call support at least weekly when I am bored just to learn and relearn every trivial part of the program. I have a feeling the support is really not unlimited and they will eventually put a limit on support. Hopefully they will refund the purchase price and if not maybe a class action suite will happen.

What is the difference between Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2021 for $399 and Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2021 for $199. My Quickbook 2018 is about to expire to run the payroll.

I have been waiting for months for there to be a deal on this. I finally gave up and bought one off ebay for $290 instead of the $385 that seemed to be the price everywhere else. It hasn't even shown up in the mail yet, and now the sale finally comes along. Maybe I'll buy and extra for next year.
