When you rip, you're making a 1:1 copy. Where in that process degrades the result? Who makes 2-3 backup copies of their movies? Stop trying to "contribute" to this thread.

Huh? I have 400+ 4K discs ripped/remuxed with MakeMkv to my NAS to watch via Plex. I use this drive & the WH14NS40. MakeMkv decrypts the disc and make 1:1 copy of the video & audio files on the disc.

They will work the same way. However, I have found that the WH16NS60 works better on 3-layer BD-100 discs.

Holy crap. How much space does that take up? What client device do you use for playback? I struggled with ripping even blurays because they would be in VC-1 format and firestick can't handle it. I was kinda disappointed with the whole idea of ripping because ultimately it just took way more time than me redeeming the code with the bluray and streaming it via firestick.

Where in the item description does this show it comes with the full version of Cyberlink software that plays back UHD content? That's usually close to $100 software all by itself.

Use handbrake to re-encode them.
I have a lot of Blu rays ripped to my plex server, and very few ripped AS VC-1. Most are variations on mpeg.
I'm guessing a lot of people aren't ripping just their own discs, but rentals and friends' discs as well. Probably mostly.

Yeah but handbrake takes too long as I don't own any super fast PC and I think it reduces the quality so at that point I'm like why go through all this for something I can just stream if I'm going to ultimately have a reduced quality video. I own the discs but I don't own a dedicated bluray player. Unfortunately have not bought the xbox one either so I have no way of playing these discs without ripping and watching through playback device. Its really me just cheaping out and not getting a dedicated uhd player. But that's the SDer in me lol.

Yep that's pretty much what I've seen with blurays and DVDs. Haven't ripped 4k yet but that's an insane amount of disk space. I may do that for some really good movies but likely to just delete the ones where it's not likely for me to watch again.
