I don't see any international option. Am I missing something? 40k roundtrip is not sensational, but decent.

did you bother to read? the poster you responded to is correct. it's right there on the page

Lowest Available Award
+ taxes and fees starting at $5.60
*each way, roundtrip purchase required
Did you ??

The poster said " You have to book roundtrip to get the deal, so paying regular price for one leg"

You do not have to pay "regular price" for one leg, OP's listing says: "domestic flights for 4,000 miles each way".

Also see comment #15.

Exactly.
It should say 8K points for domestic RT.
It clearly says what the points are:
Use your miles to book international flights for 40,000 miles roundtrip, or domestic flights for 4,000 miles each way (plus taxes and fees starting at $5.60; roundtrip purchase required).*

I'm able to find plenty of options between SFO and Paris, Amsterdam or Frankfurt for 40,000 points. You have to be flexible with dates. Some dates there's no availability, other dates have horrible connections or double red-eyes but if you're flexible there are well timed options for 40,000 points and under $100 in taxes. Example SFO-AMS on June 25 returning July 4 for 40,000 roundtrip plus $72.65 in taxes.

If other people also continue to refuse, they increase the compensation offered for whomever volunteers to get bumped. It doesn't take long until someone volunteers when the offers start increasing.
Neat in theory but doesn't always happen in practice. I got bumped from a flight where no one was asked to volunteer - they just told me I drew the short straw and told me to get lost after everyone else was boarded. Didn't get to fly until the next day and obviously missed my connecting flight (which I bought separately - definitely a mistake I won't make again). F British Airways.

That sucks. When was this? Where in the world? British Airways paid our group of 6 people in total $7,200 by checks, plus transported us to a hotel they covered for the night, paid for our dinner and breakfast the next day when we took a flight from CDG to EWR and got bumped. 24 hour delay for $7200 refund.

Noobs they're bitching because the TITLE says 4000 but its really 8000. No one gives a shit what the post says when the title is basically saying its half what it actually is...I mean jesus you'd be torn a new asshole around here for posting a deal in title half what the actual cost was..I can't even imagine the downvotes that would be coming for that one.

Sounds like they treated you nicely! I was in Vienna, Austria - I got London to Vienna flights with BA miles and a separate Virgin Atlantic RT to London from LAX. Flying CA to Vienna on one ticket is usually $1200-1300, while flying to LHR can frequently be had for 500-600...with $80-150 RT within Europe (hence the split ticket). They issued me a standby ticket when I checked-in 3 hrs before the flight... I'd imagine that was because I must have been the last to check in, but that was only because they wouldn't allow me to check-in online due to a required passport check (I'd imagine 99% of the folks onboard then were EU citizens).

In Vienna they only had contractors who weren't at all helpful and just were able to book me on the subsequent flight. Once I arrived in Heathrow I asked for accommodations and the BA staff was super rude and unhelpful. All turned out okay 100% because Virgin/Delta were SUPER helpful and awesome and moved me to another one of their flights back to the US with no fees. That's one of several really good experiences with Delta recently and now make a point to always try to fly with them first.

Virgin Atlantic is awesome. I always try to fly with them first! United has been just OK (they don't offer any accommodation, you have to ask). Always heard terrible things about BA. AirCanada was terrible when they cancelled my tickets to Australia last year, and they aren't giving cash refunds even though they are required by DOT. Hard no.

That is quite generous. If I recall correctly EU rules (EC 261) have a max. required compensation of €660, about $792 today. That would be less than $5K for six people.

Yep. I don't know what rules if any were in play, but we were offered the cash, or something like 25% more in flight vouchers, and everyone took the cash.
