At 5 inches, this is not the length that most people are looking for when they buy a chefs knife.

5" is too short.

This size is perfect for most kitchen tasks. I have all the room I need but I don't always feel like breaking out a 2x3' cutting board for everything I do simply to accommodate a larger knife. This is the companion knife for the smaller and more convenient cutting boards that I use probably 80 percent of the time, and get used all the time by people in smaller living spaces or people who don't have any particular need to wave around the biggest knife they can lift just for the psychological boost.

The angle of the handle is clever and supports chopping without having to drop the heel so far, thus keeping the blade smaller than it would otherwise need to be to prevent banging your knuckles on the cutting board.

I have one of these. I have to be honest, I don't find it very useful. The thinness of the blade and its size and shape make it rather impractical for any serious chopping or dicing. About the only use I've found for it is sort of like a paring knife, and for slicing tomatoes, and the like. The least used knife in my drawer.

Still waiting for the 8" knife to go back on sale for 30. Kicking myself for not buying it when it was 23 dollars.
