Don't need to be transferring. Could be like me, editing several steams of video simultaneously and easily seeing the speed difference.

I own various brands of SD cards and every sandisk brand card I have became corrupt within the first year or two. Lost all my data on those cards.

Yes! Very, very durable and much faster than a portable hard drive. I always travel with one and use them for backups till I get home and move stuff over to a backup/archival drive. Fast enough to edit video from, too.
Do you need a laptop to backup photos from your sd card to this?

Yes. It's very odd my computer recognized it. Same formatting as everything else. I read somewhere it needs better power?? I'm not great with all this but every other drive works on my devices but this.
Are you sure you didn't use exFAT. That's probably a more likely scenario.

They also had the 2TB newer model on sale a few weeks ago for about 220. Sold out very quickly and has since been restocked but no longer on sale

Fantastic drive once I realized I was an idiot. I had issues using this with my Xbox Series X - and looking online, saw others having the same issue. I'd tried reformatting, formatting Fat32 versus NTFS and back again, nothing seemed to work. But turns out it was (in my case) user error. The drive came with a short USB C cable, with a small female/male adapter (fits flush, and you may not even notice it's an adapter rather than the natural end of the cable) - which I ignored, and obviously ignored the manual - and plugged it into my series X using another already connected cable. At least with the version I had, you HAD to use the cable and tiny adapter it came with, or the series X wouldn't recognize the drive.

Having solved my issue - I haven't tried a different longer cable with the adapter yet, to see if it's just that (I suspect it is) but if you run into that issue, it may be for the same reason.

I was thinking of getting this for my Series X. Main idea was to store games on it and move games to the internal quicker than a HDD would. How are the transfer speeds with the Series X, noticeably different than an external HDD? Thanks

This is an awesome drive. I have 2 500gb and 1 1tb. Speed from my hard drive is about 40 to 90MBS. Speed to my nvme is about 250 to 350MBS. Usually stay at the lower range.

I used to move files via SD cards with an adapter. 6 to 18MBS off the hdd and 90 to 100MBS to the nvme.

Sata 6gps theory speed is 550MBS.. so you will never reach it unless benchmark. Small files will hamper that speed. This drive will out live the sd card.

I used to hate portable drives because they were hdd (spinny). They died quickly. Usb is ok, but the on sale stuff are slow. So I use my sd card from my camera (when not in use).

The nvme drive of 4tb for $400 is temping to put it in a 40 dollars enclosure. But those are qlc and the speed will drop hard after a while. 550MBS drive are fine all the way through, because the limit is the connection and not the drive.
