The ones who have never used it and are just guessing say it isn't enough.
Now, everything is soldered, so upgrades are impossible. To get 16 or 32 MB of RAM or a bigger SSD, you need to pay 3 times the price up front of what upgrades would cost for the same configuration, even if you don't realize the need now.
No thanks, Apple.

So back to the subject at hand...
This is a great price for this machine which should be more than sufficient for most people in the market for one. If you need a high end gaming machine, this isn't for you.
At the very least, buy Apple Care if you're going after this deal. Better yet just get the model with 16 GB RAM

Whoever said these will be 4-500 by end of year, yeah that's not going to happen.
At this price point I'm thinking about getting one of these to use for the big project of ripping and transcoding my physical media for my NAS.
Regd. RAM, at startup, my RAM usage is 5.1 GB out of 8GB for those who want to know. But I just use the Mac Mini for browsing and documents. No gaming, etc. So it doesn't matter.
I just can't believe you're chewing up 5.1/8GB of ram idle.

It's "enough" for people who don't use it daily, reviewer who don't spend a lot of time with it, or people who would feel that 8gb is "enough" on a windows machine anyway. Heck, as far as many IT department think, 4gb is still "enough" for most people.
Some people are so used to wooden PC that a Pentium with 4gb ram is enough for them. They just don't notice the difference, whether it's snappy or slow, or may not care about the occasional micro lag.
So I'm gonna dispel this one more time as someone who owns the M1 4 months now, not as some internet reviewer : M1 is not magic. 8gb is 8gb. It's gonna swap more than 16gb, and depending on how many tabs you open, you may still notice the difference between 8gb and 16gb. If you're working with a lot of interactive web pages and open 20-30 browser tab at a time, 16gb will give you better experience while 8gb is always usable. Heck, my daily driver is a 32gb ram but I would say my 4gb surface is "usable". I just surfer more while using it.
8gb is an odd configuration because the people who are not limited by 8gb don't actually need a chip as fast as M1. People who will notice the difference of the M1 would most likely be better off with 16gb.
At this price this machine is decent as a family computer, grand ma computer, kid computer, etc... But if you want a main machine and want to keep it long long time, go for 16gb. In fact it's has always been the case with Apple and their base model.
If you want a Mac, this is the cheapest entry. I'd rather go with this than an Intel model at this point because of future Mac OS support.
Edit: I also use dual monitor. Dual monitor on this is worse than a docking window laptop. But at $600, it's a minimal loss when I upgrade to the newer version in the future.
