how to use it for zoom and microphone? do we have to buy these separately?
Yes, this isn't a notebook. Buy a vid cam and it'll come with a mic built in.

Ultimately, it really depends on your use case, if you're going to use this is a primary device, and like to keep your main computers for 4+ years, then it might make sense to max out the configuration with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD, but keep in mind that adds $400 ($500 if you factor the discount on this machine) to the price, so you might have an overall better experience over 4+ years if you just get the 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD that suits your short to moderate term needs, and spending that $400 towards a new machine at the end of 2-3 years instead.

The ones who have actually used them personally say 8 is enough for most people.

The ones who have never used it and are just guessing say it isn't enough.

It's debatable either way. $600 is a great deal on this Mac mini, but paying $200 more for 16gb ram will not suddenly make it a bad deal either as that extra $200 is providing you with certainty that your computer is built to last for long long time. I agree that 16gb models don't often come on sale, but if you manage to get it from Apple Education store 256gb SSD 16gb ram version comes around $830, which is $230 extra on top of this version. Is it worth paying that ? Let say how much would you consider worth paying for that extra 8gb ram, $150 ? In that case you are really only paying $80 to $100 extra for something that will last you long time. Take it as if you are paying $100 extra for insurance or peace of mind. There is a reason why we don't see 16gb models on sale anywhere as Apple knows that version on a log run will bring them less customers as less people will upgrade their hardware sooner so they keep the price higher.
so if consumers stopped lining up to buy this nonsense it could end justifications like this?

I bought one of these from Costco with the $100 off $500 coupon. I wonder if they would price adjust the base price?

Regd. RAM, at startup, my RAM usage is 5.1 GB out of 8GB for those who want to know. But I just use the Mac Mini for browsing and documents. No gaming, etc. So it doesn't matter.
I've been told by Costco customer service that they will price adjust if the price changes within 7 days of purchase or delivery

Apple's iWork office suite is free and can open and save files in MS Office formats if that might work for you.

Very tempting deal. But Gen 2 of any product brings the biggest gains compared to any other iterations. I am gonna wait for m1x/m2. I won't skip if this not a Gen 1 product.

M1 isn't heavily reliant on RAM like many think. 8GB is pretty damn good
It's the Applications, not the hardware, that determine how much RAM you need.

Just got a 50 dollar off $500 spend email from Costco. Anyone else get one of these or know if it will work toward the Mac Mini? Now I am really tempted.

I got the same coupon. Probably will work toward the Mini. The $100 coupon worked toward my Apple TV preorder.

You were able to use the 100 off on the Apple TV? So it doesn't need to be 500?
