Ants are either in sweet or protein cycle and forage for it. You can't tell which one they will go for without trying. That's why often exterminators set up both baits at the same time.
Also spray the perimeter of your dwelling.
That said, terro may work fine for minor infestations provided they are foraging for sweet
What works for protein?

This stuff is amazing. Had tons of ants in the bathroom through a small crack during the hot summer. This literally killed hundreds of ants over the course of the week. Musta killed the queen bc they never came back. Works well but just like real estate, it's all about (placement) location.

This stuff works well. It attracts lots of ants at first, but that's what you want because then they all bring the poison back to the nest.

However last few years I would use this, the ants would just reappear later in an new spot. I put this by the back door, the ants then came in by the kitchen wall. I put Terro by the wall, and the ants came in the garage.

So the last couple of seasons I've just put Terro granules around the perimeter of the house in affected areas. Comes in a shaker bag. Working so far.

sure does. but do you know why they go bad in like 6 months even if they are unopeend? i end up tossing half of a 6 pack every year as i only need 3 per year to get em during the peak season. im hoping someone can tell me a way to make them keep longer(freezing, keeping out of sun, etc?)
I typically stock up when the big box stores clearance them out after summer, I've never had one 'go bad' - does this mean the ants are not interested or the product is hardened/discolored?

no matter what ive bought... i use them one year, and then the following year, we put them out again and the ants walk right around it and completely ignore it. put out freshly bought stuff next to it and they line up like its a $2 buffet at a nascar race. i cant tell if the posion is still effective, all i know is they loose interest in it.

this goes for different products and different brands... i bought Hot Shot Ultra Clear Roach & Ant Gel Bait HG-95769 which comes i a giant syringe, and i ended up tossing 2/3 of it. Terro 1806 Outdoor Liquid Ant Baits... used 3 of them 2 years back... the other 3 i put out the following year and we had ants walking right by the bait stations..

kinda surprised to hear people stock up, cause its never worked for us. im really curious why. different ants? different expectations? different handling? im stumped.

You know what also works without laying out toxic chemicals - mix Borax & Powdered Sugar in an old milk jug cap. They take both to their holes and kills the hive. Stop using needless chemicals
Brand Name: TERRO
Product Type: Ant Bait
Active Ingredient: Borax

This is literally just the same "cHeMicALs" that you are putting out, just pre-mixed and pre-packaged. lol. thanks for providing me an opportunity to laugh at an anti science type tho. do you also warn people about Dihydrogen Monoxide?

From the safety data sheet for Terro:

Sucrose 40-70%
Sodium borate 3-7%

This product is the best I've used. Put one out near ant trails in the house. Within a couple days, no more ants.

You need some real willpower to not want to kill them when you see them and let them take the bait back to the nest. Lol

We've had good results with this brand and model.

Coming to post that terro is our go to for ants. You can't always get lucky but last year our Target had a clearance in the fall around Halloween and sold these boxes for around a dollar each, along with a ton of other spring/summer clearance.

This is half the price and twice the volume of the bottle version.

Great experiences with Terro. Recently some ants found crumbs near my dog's food bowl, so I cleaned up the crumbs then placed a Terro bait in their spot. Within a few hours the amount of ants originally there went from a few dozen to several hundred, maybe over a thousand. It always feels like you've made the situation worse, just resist the urge to clean/end the massive poison buffet. The next morning, ants are completely gone with a few left floating in the bait. They even carry back most of their dead.
