great cpu. if you are just gaming it is good enough for anything. just built with it. I do not recommend using the included cooler. found it to be insufficient. cut my temps in half going with a 240mm ek aio for $89
MC appears to be marking up their gpus unfortunately, but i don't think it's anywhere near as bad as scalpers on ebay.
worth noting that multple retail sources on the internets have been reporting that its not e.g. Microcenter causing the GPU price markups, but the GPU manufacturers & providers themselves who are raising the prices. And its not always tied to scalping either, some is coming from materials scarcity and COVID after-effects on supply chains
I literally drove 5 hours a few months back to get one of these at Microcenter. I had to leave at 2 in the morning to get in the line that formed to enter Microcenter. At 7a when the store doesn't open until 10... I was number 299 in line! (They use this app based queue, where there is a line to wait until they put out a QR code to scan and get in line). Needless to say because me and my girlfriend both had checked me in, it screwed up their system, and when I went to talk to them, they let me in person number 7. I got the last 5600x! Boy was I lucky!
Anyways... I've always been an Intel person, but AMD is rocking it. Their CEO is awesome (nice lady), definitely read up on her. She is the reason AMD is so far ahead of Intel. Be warned though, the 5xxxx series AMD chips are known to run HOT! And AMD acknowledged it, but claims the chips can handle it and not to be concerned. Been keeping this baby, hot in my ITX build, and all I have to say is, she be performing beautifully!
I'm going from a R3 1200 to either a 3800xt or this 5600x. My pc is mostly used for daily work and plex off the same pc. I have a gtx1070 which does most of the transcoding work for me with plex. Would this 5600x be a good safe bet for a few years, I would need a new mobo with the 5600x. Or another option is stick with the same b350 update the bios and go with the 3800xt (found the 3800xt for $250 locally).
Or start all over with intel and get the i5-11600k (microcenter $220) and new mobo.
