Don't bother, I did this, I didn't get a response for a month, and it was "hi swechsler, we hope you have received your reward by now".

Instead, read this thread and contact one of the mods there directly.

Signed up for one of these rebates back in January I think. Never received the rebate.

Doing everything you're doing, but faster.

Also, downloading large files. Backing up large files. Just having a better experience in general. 10 people are streaming in my house? I can still download something fast. I don't have to wait.

It lowkey bothers me when people say they don't need fast internet--I firmly believe you don't know what you need. There were plenty of people who said they don't need internet at all, or that 14.4 or 28.8 or 56k was fine back in the analog modem days. If we listened to these luddites we'd all be stuck with Australia speeds. Progress has been bad enough here, we should have fiber EVERYWHERE by now but the companies are pocketing the taxpayer money literally earmarked for infrastructure because of various loopholes. It's totally bullshit, but the only thing that will change their mind is demand and competition.

Also, due to network effects, the more people with faster internet, the better the experience is for everyone. People and companies won't innovate and provide new services if the capability isn't there, but once it's there, they will. Think high-bandwidth VR applications, cluster computing, extremely high quality streaming (you could even send raw frames), etc.

Push progress forward and get the fastest internet you can reasonably afford. If you're on a tight budget, I get it, I've been there.

But trust me, once you have it, it's hard to go back. It's like upgrading your monitor. Yeah, you can do everything just as well on a 19" monitor, but having a 27" monitor is just really nice. Same deal here.

Exactly what I wanted to say. Those who never had the gigabit speed don't know what they are missing. During the pandemic, my family was making 3, sometimes 4 zoom meetings (including hosting one of them) at the same time. I was surprised that no one was experiencing any lags. Since Fios came to my area, one after the other families switched to Fios. Now nearly all are on Fios.

Gigabit regularly comes with the router rental included, 12 months prime, 12 months discovery+, echo dot, stream box, $99 install fee waived, and $10 off monthly bill if you also have vz wireless ($10 off that bill as well). You can also get nearly the same cashback without jumping through SD hoops at places like bee froogal, etc.
You don't actually need their router / modem. You can plug your own router straight into the ONT. That's how we have had it for years.

And again, you have to compare the total cost, excluding promo bonuses (which btw, you get some of with tiers as well), is there a noticeable benefit in spending $960 a year on a 1Gig connection VS $480 on a 300/400 connection?

I am pro higher speeds, but this is Slickdeals, and the mindset should be choices and savings!

If everyone in a high density area uses wifi at the same time it is possible to either have lag or get kicked out of a meeting due to lack of wifi spectrum regardless of provider.

I have had both Gb and 300Mb, and the sort of activity you're describing doesn't require anywhere near Gb; in fact, 100MB would be more than enough. Zoom is relatively low bandwidth compared with 4K streaming (or even standard HD streaming), and a session host doesn't use any more bandwidth than a regular user. Remember that with 300Mb your theoretical maximum speed is about 1GB (gigaBYTE, not GigaBIT) every 33 seconds. That would allow you to download the complete Windows 10 install image from Microsoft's website in under 4 minutes. That's not to say that Fios Gb isn't justified for some users, just not most of them. The only way I was able to come close to maxing out my Gb connection was when downloading from Usenet with about 50 simultaneous connections. Most websites, when downloading, will throttle your single-stream speed to something significantly less.

Sorry, but what you said sounds like Comcast's ad in my area. Well, I have switched back and forth as you did. My two sons couldn't stand 300Mb speed. Whatever logic there is, the end-user experience is of utmost importance to me. To me, the two speeds cannot be compared in terms of the user's experience. Good for you if the slower speed works. It is cheaper too. I went down there. But I will not go down there again.

Yes kids will always want the fastest speeds. The amount of porn they stream and the lower lag in games even by 1ms means the world to them. They will whine and complain even if it means costing double. For that reason I have the 1gigbit. To save my sanity.

I'm still waiting for my slick deals rebate for a new Verizon phone plan. It's been 6 months already. Very annoying.

I've rooted for higher speeds with every fiber of my being (no pun intended) since the 14.4 modem days. VZ up sold my mom (who only casually uses an iPad, no desktop at all) on gigabit with some weird analogy of a big highway she doesn't have to share with anyone else.

Nvm the bandwidth amount... They totally conflated the shared vs unshared nature as if she were going back to cable! Totally dishonest. I'm downgrading her to 200 and I am absolutely sure she won't be able to tell.

If you're using wifi, you're already doing it wrong.

Many say you don't need gigabit speeds, but you also have to consider things like gaming. Yeah gaming doesn't consume much bandwidth, but if someone is watching Netflix or streaming anything, it will affect your gaming. Even though your not constantly downloading, it only takes a second to add latency in your gaming. I used to be on 50Mbps a few years back, and trust me it will cause latency in your games. Having gigabit internet makes it so no one in your household can saturate your line.

How is this a good deal? I pay $60 per month for AT&T gigabit fiber. I received $300 VISA gift card when I signed up for it.

Fios has been around for over 10 years and it is still not available in my city.

I live in one of the largest cities in the US.
