I got the white/grey one two years ago or so (pandemic time is hard to gauge...) from smugdesk (you can find them online yourself easily enough) for 180 shipped. These chairs, minus small differences in the bases, were at the time routinely retailing in the high 200s low 300 range. Took a chance and, yep, absolutely worth it. These are easily worth the money and if I was outfitting an office I'd probably roll with these and not give it a second thought.

Obligatory to each his or her own of course. $170 from amazon is a great price though the color wouldn't be my first choice. It's nice that from various sources these are now pretty obtainable at the $200 or less price-point shipped.

Thanks. I was hoping someone would chime in on this. I've been on the lookout for a chair, and this looked like a pretty good one for a decent price. I actually kind of like the burgundy, although it would be my second choice if all were the same price.

How's the quality of the mesh? Any signs of sagging?

I understand everyone has a different idea of a perfect chair, but after sitting in about 80 chairs between staples and office depot I am surprised anyone would buy these mesh style chairs. My back hit the plastic frame on almost every mesh chair I tried, and I only weigh 160lbs.

Nope. Maybe some more flex, but certainly not sagging. That's gonna be after 1+ years at least with pretty much 12+ hour days in-seat most days of the week. Obligatory your mass-manufactured experience may differ (and honestly that was my first thought with these as well - figured after awhile the mesh would slip or something...).

The headrest doesn't quite hit my head with standard chair posture/sitting but I've never been bothered with it - you could get one of those head rest pillows and that would do it.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good cushion seat - fabric or leather - but when that foam underneath gives up the chair is hell to sit in all day. Mesh in that regards, unless it sags, is a 24/7 trooper. My experience with this chair has been way positive.

To the mesh haters, I get it. I've sat in some mesh chairs that were kinda why bother? I'd call this chair a wonderful pseudo knockoff of much higher priced brand name chairs, pseudo knockoff in that it's made in the same factory, but then they use different bases on them, maybe tweak one other thing, and then let other companies magic up their own brand and name and price to sell them through.

When I took it out of the box and assembled it it felt like I bought a *real* chair and not a "I-need-a-chair" from Staples. The difference between "I'm assembling another chair from Staples like I have many times before" vs. "This was only $160 bucks? Something isn't right but I'm not complaining..."

Yes, if you want to use the skateboard poly rollers instead of the included plastic usual ones it's an easy swap. I imagine on hard surfaces they are a joy, but I made the swap and I'm on short thread carpet (more than Berber) and I'm just getting a little better roll. In hind sight I don't think I needed to make the swap.

One last thing - I looked up when I got this. Its was over a year ago, I used a discount code and got it for $166 shipped, and the reason I got it from smugdesk is because it was the best price I could get as everywhere else this chair (under different brand names) was going for a lot more due to pandemic pricing what with everyone needing a new chair to work from home and the shipping disruptions and so on

I weigh about 215 with covid and daily drive a Staples Hyken every day—mine does not do this. Either your chair is bogus or you're doing something wrong.

Mesh is the way. Especially for 4+ hour sessions like WFH.

- Airflow & Breathability(!): No sweaty backside on hot days
- No sagging material: no peeling faux leather or compressed cushions
- Very very easy to clean: spills or messes aren't a concern and they don't retain smells like cushions would
- Not bulky
- Easily mod-able & can add cushions/blankets if you so need

Agree to disagree. At least in this price range mesh is not the way to go, I personally sat in the chairs ranging from 100-400 in mesh, not a single chair felt comfortable to me and they all felt poorly built. Obviously this is a personal preference, I am simply stating I do not understand the hype behind the cheepo mesh. The Aeron on the other hand is amazing, had one at work briefly before my manager decided she wanted it lol

I see.

Weirdly enough I have both a Herman Miller Aeron and Staples Hyken and they each have their merits and I happily use them interchangably.

I agree. I just got a Staples Dexley and love it. I needed the extra height from the dexley not really the width but if people are touching the plastic frames then they probably haven't tried the wider Dexley. Im still a little too tall even for the dexley but someone made a 3d printed piece that raises the headrest I ordered. Love it for the past 2 weeks otherwise. The recline design is perfect for how I sit and relax in between gaming or work.

I would take the chance if it were roughly $50 cheaper like the Dexley on sale.

Got the Staples Dexley a year back and it was cheaper than this at the regular price. I'm 175 and uses it 10 hours a day. Very happy with the back support. I have back issues from a previous chair, so I'd highly recommend buying a mesh you could try it end return easily. A weak mesh is not good for spine.

A similar model I'd recommend is this one that has worked out very well for me (5' 10" 170).

SIHOO M57 Ergonomic Office Chair, High Back Computer Desk Chair, Breathable Mesh Chair Adjustable 3D Armrest and Lumbar Support (Black) https://www.newegg.com/p/2T4-028H..._-05152021
