HF has their backpack sprayer on sale. Normal price $30, typically $20 before they phased out coupons. Now you gotta wait for sales to buy at coupon price so... Here it is.

I use mine to spray Bifen to kill mosquitos.

Leaks after a few uses. End up with puddles of toxic chemicals on the garage floor. You get what you pay for.

These are great for throw away uses like staining a fence. That's exactly what I've used one for. No problems with it at all. Modified the base of the sprayer for a more secure strap attachment because I read reviews before I bought. This one or the smaller one HF sells are great for applying fence stain. The straps definitely are not comfortable, but you don't expect plush leather seats on a Geo Metro.

This is a good alternate use idea..

I bought this Field King one [amazon.com] a few years ago when it was featured on Slickdeals for around $50. I only use it 4 or 5 times a year, but it's been good. It hasn't leaked. My only complaint is the handle doesn't rotate to the vertical position for storage, which makes storing it awkward. I'm not sure I would give full price for it, but I also don't know if it will ever be $50 again with the way prices are rising on just about everything now.

I'm glad I got it instead of the Harbor Freight one. I love Harbor Freight, but something tells me a sprayer that cheap is going to leak all over me while it's on my back.

Thanks - never saw that deal.. but looks like everyone likes this one Smilie

Not bad after a few modifications. Had to cut holes for the straps to latch into otherwise they just keep falling off. I tightened all of the fittings and no leaks. I do like that the pump arm folds up to allow for easy storage.

I bought this unit a couple years ago and have used it twice with success. My expectations were low because A) It's $20, and B) it's from Harbor Freight. I use it to spray moss treatment on my roof and the double-tip attachment allow me to cover a large area much more easily than a typical hand-held sprayer. If you need something for daily use, Harbor Freight is usually a bad source.

As for the straps, I learned a trick. If you can fill it on a table, slide the sprayer so a corner is over the edge of the table. Position the clip at the bottom of the strap in the notch of the sprayer overhanging the table, then slide the sprayer back onto the table. (Ignore the confusing and useless cutout above each notch.) The table holds the clips in place. Kneel down to put the sprayer on your back. Once you stand up, the weight of the pack will keep the clips in place.

I guess since all the reviews seem to be negative I'll throw in my experience. I have owned mine for about 5 years now. I always leave it pressurized when I'm done, I leave it in the freezing garage all winter without emptying it, and I use it for both permethrin and glyphospate. I have had zero leaks, no issues with pressure, no strap breaks. The only issue I have is the first use in the spring I have to rinse it out due to concealing caused by me leaving glyphospate in it over the winter. But that is my fault not the products. Yes the straps are uncomfortable, no there is no padding for your back. I'm not sure what you people expect for $20.... I'm my opinion it has worked great and continues to do so. So at least with my experience I can't in good conscience ask for any product improvements at this price point. When this deal popped up I went and bought a second one so I don't have to clean it out to switch chemicals. Full disclosure I don't use it everyday but I due treat 5 properties totaling about 7 acres.

Been using one of these for the last 3 years and love it!

The shoulder straps fell apart after the 2nd year so I replaced them with 1" wide nylon straps, and slip pool noodles over them for cushioning.

The little clip that holds the wand to the tank when not in use broke after the 1st year, but no biggie. Overall this sprayer was one of the best investments for my garden due to the extremely low price compared to similar products. I don't think I've seen anything close to this price range from any other source.

Bottom line, this sprayer is a steal for $20!

I own this. It's worth $20. If you can figure out how to assemble the plastic pieces for the straps you are a genius.

I have this sprayer. It has worked fine. Had to make a modification so I could secure one of the straps but no issue after that. There's a Youtube video floating around showing you that you have a cut a slot for the second strap so it's secure.

A nice sprayer is worth the price especially if you need the volume of a backpack, cheap sprayers seem to have a very short life and the headache of leaky malfunctioning parts isn't worth it. My Solo has held up well.

I picked one up on sale at HF a year ago. Don't waste your time or money.
Plastic hook on the straps broke first use, allowing full unit to fall off my back.
Had a job to do, so sucked it up and carried it by the handle.
Needed three hands, 1 to carry, one to pump, and one to spray.
Ended up setting it down a lot to pump it up, which made it awkward, but got through it.

Pump unit worked ok, if you really like pumping the handle up and down.
While I did test for leaks, and tightened all fittings before use, I still couldn't seem to build up enough pressure to allow spraying for more than a few seconds.

All in all, would NOT buy again, even for $20. Get a good 2 gallon pump sprayer, or pay more for a better backpack unit.

Trying to figure out how I can pair the tank with a little inflator unit, and get a battery operated unit.
Back to the lab we go, Igor.

I have owned this same sprayer for 4 years. My brother and I both bought one at the same time. I have used it several times each year, including this year, for killing grass, weeds, and brush. It has worked flawlessly for me and so has his. I have other sprayers, including one that mounts on my ATV, but this is my favorite. It has over 3700 5 star and 4 star reviews and 87% recommended to buy. It is well worth the $5 a year it has cost me.
