HF has their backpack sprayer on sale. Normal price $30, typically $20 before they phased out coupons. Now you gotta wait for sales to buy at coupon price so... Here it is.

I use mine to spray Bifen to kill mosquitos.

Leaks after a few uses. End up with puddles of toxic chemicals on the garage floor. You get what you pay for.

I'd recommend buying a Jacto, or alternatively, a Shindaiwa (which may be made by Jacto). I broke a cheaper "professional" imitation on the first use (broke the pump arm in half). I've had my Shindaiwa for years.

I guess this is more applicable if you're going to use it repeatedly. If you only need it for 1 or 2 uses, then maybe this will work if you're gentle. Note that the Jacto or Shindaiwa are going to cost you about 5x as much but one time I got covered in chemicals with a leaking shitty version (One that cost about $50 at Sam's, and soaked my clothing after maybe 1 or 2 uses) and woke up with what felt like a really bad flu that lasted a few days. And I was actually just spraying Conserve SC which is supposed to be somewhat organic-ish but not technically organic.

Fiddling with sprayers filled with chemicals sucks. This is one thing where I recommend getting the professional version if you actually need a sprayer for more than a 1 off. Home Depot/Lowes etc don't have truly professional sprayers. Harbor Freight kinda looks like one of the "real" ones but you ain't gonna get much more than you pay for.

Slap yourself in the balls and throw some cash on the table if you really need a sprayer for man work (the first is the one I have but I think I might prefer a 3.5 or 4 gallon to a 5 gallon... I am a big guy and 5 gallons is heavy-ish and slightly cumbersome to buckle on... and spraying isn't my job):

Edit: The Shindaiwa version I have has a lower back pad and straps that go around your waist and your chest. Carrying around more than 3 gallons on your back is going to suck without versions of this. The versions on the Shindaiwa are nice and padded to allow good maneuvering even when you're carrying 5 gallons (about 43 lbs) on your back. Not sure what kinda support and straps the HF version has, but it is a necessary feature.

I bought this Field King one [amazon.com] a few years ago when it was featured on Slickdeals for around $50. I only use it 4 or 5 times a year, but it's been good. It hasn't leaked. My only complaint is the handle doesn't rotate to the vertical position for storage, which makes storing it awkward. I'm not sure I would give full price for it, but I also don't know if it will ever be $50 again with the way prices are rising on just about everything now.

I'm glad I got it instead of the Harbor Freight one. I love Harbor Freight, but something tells me a sprayer that cheap is going to leak all over me while it's on my back.

Just giving you a hard time.

Dihydrogen monoxide [dhmo.org] is a chemical that should always be taken seriously. I'm thankful DHMO.org has been bringing awareness to the dangers of this ubiquitous chemical for nearly a quarter of a century now.

I've had this backpack sprayer for about 2 years. Straps are a little tricky. I've never had a leak or problem with it. I occasionally have to take off the sprayer tip because of a piece of trash or grass clogging it. I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about. Pro tip...don't store it with pressure in the tank.

For this HF version, or one of the better models people are recommending, how far (or high) can one of these hand pump sprayers reach?

I had a powered model which sprayed quite far, but was expensive and had the motor fail just after the warranty period ended so I am interested in trying a manual pump model.

(Thanks in advance.)

I was thinking the same thing; 500% more is not really the same category.

Person A: What would you recommend as an alternative to a Ford Fiesta?
Person B: A decked out Landrover
Person A: That seems like an apples to apples comparison
Person B: I thought so

3...2...1....someone replying "buy once, cry once" that does not own either sprayer.

I'd say it's about 3 feet max using the fan spray nozzle

These are great for throw away uses like staining a fence. That's exactly what I've used one for. No problems with it at all. Modified the base of the sprayer for a more secure strap attachment because I read reviews before I bought. This one or the smaller one HF sells are great for applying fence stain. The straps definitely are not comfortable, but you don't expect plush leather seats on a Geo Metro.

On the 2nd season with mine backpack sprayer from Harbor Freight, but not sure if it's this brand/model. Haven't had any issues, but do need to tighten the fittings before every use.

I bought this about 6 months ago and it's broken multiple times. The spray wand is now leaking from the handle.
