keep doubting when I see a deal pop up on these. Lots of reviews on Costco saying these didn't last long/failed pretty quickly. Anyone have any counter to that?
I have had a Klipsch 4.1 setup for about 20 years now and haven't had any real issues out of them. One wire got a little corrosion on it about 5 years ago and caused intermittent sound issues, but once cleaned it was fine. They still sound great.

Purchase price must be $100+, right? These are $80.
There was no $100 minimum required. I know that thread I linked to said $10 off $100 purchase but not everyone got the same amount of discount. If you read through some of the comments in that thread - some people were lucky enough to get 40% off. It depends on your account (AMEX / Amazon).

How do people deal with lack of power button?

And I would love a desktop puck control with headphone jack. Are there anything people recommend for that with these?
Kasa HS103 / HS105. Easy peasy

Warning: I got a new set to replace my 10+ year old set when sub foam deteriorated. The sound quality is not comparable; the old ones (different amp/sub) sound dramatically better. I am going to try to re-foam or replace the sub in the old set and give these to someone.
I've bought three pairs of these. The first two's amps kicked the bucket. I always noticed it was kind of warm on the plate. The third set doesn't get warm at all, but yeah, the old version sounded noticeably better. I even tried using the old satellites with the new sub/amp, but no change to the sound quality.

I also noticed the new set's power LED will slowly flicker off when unpluged, whereas the old would gradually fade off. Not sure what that means, if anything. I do like that the new ones come with a right-angle plug though.

I had this exact same situation lol.

Let me know if you find a good foam kit.

This is a drop in replacement for the sub. Use a paperclip to snag and pull off the subwoofer grill.

or on amazon [amazon.com] (make sure seller is Parts Express).

Mine are running three years strong without as much as a hiccup. They work and sound great. Can't imagine you could find anything better for the money. I know I spent way more than this.

I bought this set from Amazon for $89 then got a $20 credit (price match) for a total of $69.
Best speakers under $100 I've ever purchased. Well worth the $$.

I had a pair of these 15 years ago that I lost. They sounded great at the time but I'm curious if they sound as good as more modern powered desktop monitors in the $100 range. Like a presonus or something. These are just so old that I have a hard time a better 2.0 speaker isn't available.
Anyone have any experience that can comment?
I'm worried they won't sound as good as I remembered. Purpose is solely music.
The subwoofer isn't that important to me as I prefer diminished bass with good clear mids and imaging over strong bass that doesn't blend perfectly at all times.

Great speakers, but a somewhat related opinion:

Don't listen to people on the internet when they say something like "these are good speakers, but not as good as a pair I bought 10 years ago".

There's some weird kind of audiophile vintage nostalgia know-it-all psychology going on there that seems to be extremely common regardless of which speakers we're discussing or which decade we're in. You'll hear it a lot in speaker related forums, best to ignore it.
I agree with your comment but in this case it isnt nostalgia and other users report the same thing.

Over the 10+ years the internals and speakers have changed vs the first design. That is the nature of new versions but IMHO the sound quality took a big hit in newer version.

New version is still good set but not what they used to be.

FYI - does not look like they have a Optical connector so may not work for all setups.

This sub is 8Ω and based on some research i think the original is 6Ω. Did you do this replacement? Does it sound comparable to the original?

Do these only have 3.5 mm plug if I wanted to connect to a TV?
Saw at Costco. It will take the 3.5mm plug BUT does not come with the cable. Actually stated in relatively large text.
They were $129 at the time so it didn't seem that slick if you wanted to have it wired.
