Same price as Costco. Apple Refurb store has these for $11 cheaper, but it's refurbished.

Just get it at Costco with Citi credit card. 4 year warranty + 90 days returns = Complete No Brainer

Any citi card would get that to be warranted for 4 years?

You simply CAN't beat Costco prices once you include a 4 year extended warranty (for free) and almost impossible when they also have a discount and you can return them in 90 days if you dont like it !

Soon to include the one I just sent back. I was not impressed with the lack of ports and being stuck with what is essentially a beta OS: Big Sur. It might be ready for prime time in 2 years, just like OS X was when it launched. IMHO, suitable only for kids or someone without demanding needs.

Waiting on delivery (from Sacramento's DoubleDex off eBay with 2-year Allstate warranty) of a mid-2015 2.5 GHz MacBook Pro for $750, the best Apple laptop ever. The last Steve Jobs model -- and that was upgradeable and user serviceable before Apple soldered everything, even the SSD.

I have been using the i7 2015 pro with 16gb RAM for years, love it ! But man, not sure why you complain about the M1, just bought the macbook air a couple of weeks ago in Costco and it blows away almost anything compared with an i9 that costs almost 3 times more with 32GB !
Yes, editing photoshop with 200 layers in real time might be heavy on 8GB, but on the m1 you can really edit 4k streams real time way faster while using other apps, or open 50 apps while watching a video with no glitches ... even while emulating Intel for most of the apps that werent updated yet to m1 code.
Not to mention battery really runs while "using it" way over 12 hours while it is impossible on a old intel cpu while you have to cover your ears because of the fan if you even try this.
If ports is you issue you can add 1 external usb-c hub I'm using now with 2 monitors, yes, on the cheapest 8g m1 AIR with no problem.

My biggest concern is that the SSD is soldered. That may be a huge issue in less than a year for these entry-level units. Many users are reporting 5% or more of life already consumed with only a few months of typical consumer use. Another Apple class action in the offing?

IF I was going to get one of these, it would include 16GB (to minimize swap files) and a 1TB SSD. Or wait until (if?) they come out with one with mega ports, like this still-sold model: https://www.apple.com/us-hed/shop...630-512gb#

Just bought from Costco. It is $669 - $70 discount -$50 off $500 coupon = $550.
Using Costco Citi card, it will have 4 years warranty and $11 in certificate rebate next year. Overall I think Costco price and warranty beats down Amazon completely.

I thought about it ... an upgrade to 8gb and 256gb is SO expensive that I will keep a discounted machine for a year, and with the difference almost save to get half a new basic bigger m2 next year if needed while you can always sell the old one with very good resel price.

Keep in mind a 4 year warranty, if any problem, might also help you.

Also consider the usbc enough is fast to add a good external 1tb disk which are slowly getting cheaper for main storage with no apple tax

I dont think there is ANY pc comparable with the macs with m1 less if you measure the speed, battery life, etc ... in this price range ... by far

IMHO, suitable only for kids or someone without demanding needs. 256 GB and 8GB of RAM is just too entry level for anyone else. And the jury is out on whether the small amount of RAM will burn up the soldered small SSD too early over time due to continuous use of swap files.

It's irresponsible to recommend a laptop from 2015. M1 is much more powerful and update to date then a 2015 intel macbook.
