This is an HDPE bottle.
I personally prefer the HDPE bottles. I think they're great. I carry one everywhere. I think they're a little more questionable for liquids other than water, though.

In 1996 - I out one in the shade under a wheel of a 1972 Wagoneer while I was wrenching on it then promptly backed over the bottle. It popped.
In 1998 - I busted one against rocks when I dropped my pack.
They really only break under extreme abuse but they do. 99.9% of the time they just get a scratch.
These light bottles are hdpe plastic. They are lighter but not light by today's standards.get a platypus bottle. These hdpe bottles also retain taste and odors so water is the only thing that can really go in them.
I moved to carrying a MSR dromedary/dromlight to carry bulk water in and a lexan/tritan nalgene bottle. The bottle is for drinking water, mixing Gatorade, making making cold brew ice tea, and for purifying water as there is no odor retention.
