Am I missing something or prices went through the roof last night?
I am on the market for laptop for my kiddo, but 10th gen i7 + 1650Ti for $1.5K is a deal now?

Don't get a top of the line XPS laptop for a kiddo - no need to pay that premium for an ultrabook, especially for a kid's laptop. Get an Inspiron or other value model.

Yep. G15 i5-10200H + 1650 still $599, with good thermo, tho 4 core.
She needs it for home schooling + light gaming + Adobe CS6 photo/video editing.

When you shop for first cars for your kid, do you immediately look at Bentleys and Rolls Royce?
Because that's what you're doing right now: you're complaining about the price of the upper echelon computers. For a kid.
Just because some of us like nice things doesn't mean that everything has to be dirt cheap. These were quite a bit more expensive at launch, so $1,500 for non-refurb isn't bad.
I've owned multiple iterations of the 15 and I love it. Can't wait to get a good deal on a 17, though.

Well... Aside of the fact that I was looking for a rig for my kid (not a first car tho) what is so special with this configuration that cost that money? If it were 3060 I wouldn't ask this question first place. But for 1650, which you called "upper echelon"?

So, does that mean that in your view, level of video card is the only part of a computer that can make it 'upper echelon'? B/c that sounds like your claim here...
As far as distinguishing factors - build and design quality and the screen quality are biggies. Going thin and light with a high-wattage processor is always going to command a premium as well.
